Default How to remove scratches

I have some very light but numerous scratches in the paint of my 2005 Lemans Blue C6 with 30K miles. Looks like someone washed or waxed it with some grains of sand on he pad. They are not deep and pass the fingernail test.

Should I have it color sanded to remove the scratches or is there anything else I can do? I live in Plano Texas and would like a local contact to do it.

Thanks

Color sanding is not needed for this but what you are looking for is a process called paint correction. There are local people that can do this, look over in the southwest section.

I have everything needed to do this and will be doing my car probably after the holidays.

If you want to correct the paint yourself, you can buy the equipment and compounds for about $200. There are a lot of videos on YouTube showing exactly how to do paint correction. Search for a guy called "Junkman". He has a C5 Corvette and has very detailed videos on paint correction. I followed him and my car is flawless. Or you can find a local detailer to get the scratches out. Either way, if you cannot feel them with a fingernail, they will disappear with a few hours of work by you or a detailer.

If you can't even feel the scratches with your fingernail then you could probably just use a good quality fill-in glaze. A lot of people put in a lot of time and energy dealing with the tiny scratches only to have them pop up every time they wash/wax their cars. Kinda a damned if you wash and damned if you don't deal. Besides...every time you start messing with getting scratches out....you run the risk of messing up a good paint job over time.....LOL. Try a good quality fill-in glaze first and then you may not have to start pulling out all the fancy paint stuff.

you can take out scratches and swirl marks fairly easy. lots of polishing compounds on the market for just that reason. most are easy to use and can be done by hand, but a whole lot easier if you have a polisher.
Look on youtube "how to remove scratches and swirl marks". pretty easy, just takes a little time. It won't cost you $200 unless you are buying DA polisher or something.

3M makes a micro-fine polishing compound that I've had good luck with.

+1

Junkman's video's on youtube are detailed. Watch his series and he tells you what to purchase and the techniques required.

In his paint correction video, stands on the hood of his filthy DD and does the twist until the paint is scratched and he then shows you what can be corrected and what can't be corrected.

I use white rubbing compound with a microfiber cover on my 10" buffer followed by Meguires ultimate compound followed by Mothers wax/cleaner followed by Meguires NXT 2.0.
