Brake life?

Brake life?
So I recently purchased my 2008 Z06, and the car is absolutely amazing! But in the last week, I've noticed that the brakes have a horrible screech to them now. It's definitely more noticeable from the start, but I'm just curious, with only 28,300 miles on it, is that normal mileage for the brakes to need upgrading and/or replaced? Sure seems awfully quick to me.

I'll bet the previous owner tracked it and installed race pads, which are all squelers.

It doesn't show any signs of being tracked at all. That's what's weird. No performance mods of any kind, original crappy *** factory tires, and surprisingly still have decent tread life. (Which doesn't matter, considering I'm replacing with some ZR1 wheels on Saturday) It's definitely weird to me.

The pads from the factory will squeal some, but as far as mileage goes, I changed my squealing metallic pads for ceramic pads at 50 K miles, and they were just 1/2 worn out.
If you don't track the car, then you could go ceramic as well.
I didn't find any difference in stopping power between my OEM metallic pads or the replacement OEM ceramic pads.

Autozone Ceramic pads work for me. Car is not tracked but not a DD either. All is well in stopping /dust world.
I did apply brake anti squeal to back of pads and all is quite.

That would be very good mileage if so. Mine were toast at 15k, the GY F1 Supercar on a base model.
PO must of babied this machine.

there is no way the factory tires lasted 28k. check the date, if they are the date should match the production date of the car. the previous owner may have takes them off and reinstalled them to sell the car. brakes make noise, noise when cold and when hot is normal, try a couple of 40-10 mph stops to deglaze the pads. pull 1 front & 1 rear wheels off and check the thickness of the pads, you may then see if the are labeled.

It all depends on how the car was driven. If the previous owner made quick hard stops the brakes won't last as long. For instance, my wife gets very poor brake mileage, whereas I've gotten over 100K out of a set.
I've got about 33K on my car and the brakes are still good. And my original tires lasted longer than most

As to the original question, if it was used as a DD in traffic, it could very well be toast time for brake pads/rotors.

Pull your wheel see if you have padlets or a 1 piece pad. If you have padlets than they are probably original you can move them around in the caliper that may help. If they are padlets you will see they are all worn differently not a good design get a 1 piece pad.

You may not need brakes at only 28000 miles. My car's brakes were making noise and I thought I needed new brakes as well with only 25000 on the clock. Right now, the proper term escapes me, I think it's called setting the brakes. Make a couple of runs at around 40mph and then brake hard, maybe two or three times. I'm sure someone will chime in and explain it better than I did, but that's the gist of the procedure.
