Benefits of Nitrogen

oh boy....
have used it as part of free fill during tire swap....no effect
By volume, dry air contains 78.09% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen,[1] 0.93% argon, 0.039% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases.
a hotly debated topic here on the forum.....
good luck with this one

If you're going to be getting the nitrogen for your tires for free, go for it, but certainly don't pay $$ for it. No matter the pro's & con's it is still a gas that will react to temperature contracting and expanding, meaning your tire pressure will still change depending on the temperature of the day just like free air does, will it be exactly the same as free air? No of course not because it's 100% Nitrogen instead of 78% Nitrogen. So basically you'll see a 22% difference between the two in reacting to temperature.

All smoke and mirrors. I've had it filled for free in new tire and I noticed 0 difference.

Neat green caps.
The chief benefit seems to be to the shops that fill your tires with it so you need to return to them time after time for a top off. They get extra bites as your apple that way.

Here are the major disadvantages.
1. It's not available very many places in town.
2. It's usually more expensive than air.
It's been discussed here a time or two.

Don't do it. It was in my wife's car when we bought it and I found that nobody would touch them when it needed air, which it eventually did. Made for a real pita, so I had it taken out.

If you have a source of dry air you are ok. I have never had a problem having someone refusing to adjust air pressure with their air supply.I have had rims corrode enough at bead area to cause leaks. My air supply does not have a dryer so I compress a lot of water. At $3.00 a wheel to refill with nitrogen it is no big deal, whenever they need adjusted C.J's tire does it for free. If I have an issue away from home I would not hesitate to use what ever air was available. Yes the green caps are tacky, you won't see them on my car. Yes you still have tire pressure increase as temp. rises Is it more stabile? Yes but not anything that is going to effect street driving, seat of the pants feel. Yes All my cars have the snake oil treatment (nitrogen). No I am not worried about my tires rotting away before I wear them out.TPS are expensive and if the nitrogen saves me a TPS premature failure then it paid for itself.Yes atmosphere is 78.2 % nitrogen but you need a psychometric chart to determine how many grains of water are in that source you are using.

The nitrogen molecules are larger than air molecules; therefore, you get less leakage over time. You will have expansion and contraction because nitrogen is a gas. Recall the ideal gas law.
Additionally, nitrogen is dry as compared to air thereby saving your air pressure sensors.
Costco performs nitrogen fills at no cost for members. The fill machine performs a purge of the air in the tire before the tire is filled with nitrogen.
