Garage Car Lift

Garage Car Lift
I am thinking about a car lift. I have run out of space and I either get rid of some of my toys or add a lift. Do any of you have recommendations about type or style? Should it be a two post or 4 post. This lift will mostly be used for storage, but also used for maintenance of all my vehicles. None of my vehicles are heavy so a light duty lift will work. Thanks, JDA

I had this same style lift and really liked it to. I had the cross trays, so that I could also jack up the car off of the tracks, in case you needed to remove the wheels.

Eight feet probably will not get your car high enough to put another car under It, even a low profile car. With my 4 post lift, I have to raise the car about 2 inches to engage or relieve the safety dogs (Term might not be correct). My previous garage had a 9 foot ceiling and that was barely adequate. It helped a lot but I was always hunched over to do maintenance and I am short. Beats laying on the floor! The garage door is also an issue as an additional panel will probably have to be added unless you have a deep garage.

You need at least a 11 foot ceiling and a 4 post works great. It will be the best investment you have ever made. Good luck.

My ceiling is 10'1". With the lift all the way up (sitting on the highest safety catch) I have about 4 inches of clearance between the top of the car and the ceiling. Raised all the way up (as high as it will go) I still have 2 - 2 1/2" clearance.
You really need 10' ceilings in order to make use of the storage feature, unless your other toys are shorter than a normal car. The Pontiac Bonneville in my picture is about 55" tall. I now have a Cadillac CTS which is about the same height and my C6 is about 1/2" shorter than my C4 was.

As far as lifting capacity, as long as your lift is rated for 7000, 8000 or higher pound lift capacity you should be fine.

Another vote for the eagle lifts, great investment. Just make sure you measure and re measure to ensure clearances as others have said. Don't forget to account for the height of the tracks/ramps the car sits on as the cables run under them

I have 13' ceilings in 600SF of my garage. After much research I chose a Bendpak HD-9STX which is extra long, wide and lifts about 7' from the floor. since I'm 6'3" it was important for me to be able walk under it without issues. You typically get what you pay for in these lifts so I don't "skimp". You will have it for a long time and you can take it with you.
