I was scared at first...
I decided to buy a Porter Cable 7424XP for Christmas and all the stuff needed to do paint correction on my car. When I bought my car in September it looked stunning, but after having it for a little while I realized that it has fine scratches and swirl marks. After watching videos of how to do this, I decided to give it a try.
I was scared at first, but I'm doing much better than I thought. I work a late shift, so every now and then I'll do part of the car in the morning before work. I took some pictures to see if I would be able to tell the difference, and I think it's pretty obvious! The sun was shining much brighter in the before picture, but I tried to get a similar angle in the after picture today. Take a look, I'm happy with the results.
It'll look good on February 28th when I take it to the strip at Ennis and find out what she can do in the 1/4!
These were taken straight out of my iPhone with no editing other than cropping and adding the text.

I have been using a Porta Cable for almost 9 years now and one thing you learn, you cannot hurt your paint with one. That is due to the fact that it is a random orbital buffer and not a circular type, Those are the one that will burn that paint. All that happens with a PC is if you apply to much pressure it stops the pad from moving.
They are great for getting out the typical small scratches and swirls.

Our vetts also have a very hard clear coat, so one needs to be more patient when correcting finish issues.

Looks good, but with the little that I actualy drive the vet, just hit the easy button and take is down once a year for a detail, and let them touch up the few paint chips/scratches at the same time.

What products and pad combos did you use? I just bought a Griots DA and looking forward to trying it out. I still need products and can't decide what to try.
Car looks great. I'm a little nervous myself. Glad to hear it's not so bad

I just bought a PC as well and I'm waiting for the rest of my supplies to come in before I start.
Yours looks great! I hope all my hours of watching Junkman videos pays off like you.

I basically followed Junkman2000 videos on YouTube, and bought what he suggested for the Porter Cable.
I begin by washing the car,
then claybar the area you are going to work on
then use the Chemical Guys BUFX102HEX5 Hex-Logic Medium-Heavy Cutting Pad (orange pad) with Meguiar's M105 Mirror Glaze Ultra-Cut Compound
then use Chemical Guys BUFX104HEX5 Hex-Logic Light-Medium Polishing Pad (white pad) with Meguiar's M205 Mirror Glaze Ultra Finishing Polish
once all that is finished, I use Zaino Z2 polish and Z6 spray
I work on small sections of the car at a time, I've done the hood, front bumper, both front fenders, passenger door and half of the rear hatch. I'll do the rear bumper and rest of the rear end soon. I have about 90 minutes each morning to kill after I drop my kid off at school before going to work so on days that I can, I work on part of the car. It's turning out great, but there are some scratches that I still see. Previous owner did a pretty good job of taking care of the car, but I think he ran it through the automatic car washes a lot. I could see tons of scratches on each rear quarter where I think the vacuum hose must have scraped back and forth when he vacuumed the rear area at the car wash. Got most of those out, but there are still some that I can spot.
