2012 GS Options NPP F55 (VIN decoding?)
I'm looking at getting into a C6 and am specifically considering a 12 GS 2LT. I'm wondering if this car has NPP and F55 and if you can glean this info off the VIN. Would rather not contact the dealer. Oh and who thinks F55 is worth it?
A tag on. I owned an '85 Z51 and it rode much too rough for my preference. If I wanted a smoother ride, would you recommend a base coupe or F55 GS? Heard the standard GS ride is very similar to the Z51.
Thanks

Put the VIN in this link and it will tell you the details:

I have F55 on my 2011 GS, and I'm very glad I got it as an option

Not sure why you don't want to contact the dealer? Are you scared of him?
Anyways, both those options can be confirmed visually.
F55 will have the selector on the center console
NPP will have the 2 butterfly valves on the inner tips.
As far as F55 worth it? I have it and I like it but 99% of the time I am in sport mode so the option to select doesn't provide me much value.
It was already on the car when I bought it but if I was building one with the options I wanted, I probably would have kept the standard shocks, saved the money on the F55 option and spent it on a good set of coilovers. But that's just me.

You wont find all your answers in the VIN number; you need to check out the RPO tag on the glove box door. It will have ALL options listed by RPO number (NPP, F55 etc.) I always ask for a photo of the tag when shopping over the net or by phone.

All that any "VIN decode" program will tell you about your C6 is:
- year
- make
- model
- engine
- transmission
- trim level (1LT, 2LT, etc)
No individual options are encoded in the VIN. From the TRIM level you may be able to assume some certain options are there (2012 2LT has NAV, HUD, etc). But nothing encoded in the VIN number itself will tell you if a particular C6 has stand-alone options, such as F55, NPP, chrome wheels, etc.
Cheers,
Kent

The dealer can give you a printout of every option on the car. They enter the VIN and the GM database will spit out the information. If you go look at the car, the RPO tag in the glovebox will list all of the options.

I had a 84 Z51 and it was like riding in a go cart and was horrible if not on smooth pavement. When it came time to buy a C6 I decided to drive all suspension versions and found all to be way better than the C4 and ended up getting a Z51 C6. I would have been happy with either the Z51 or F55 and I guess if I had a choice I would have leaned towards the F55. When the GS model was born in 2010 it basically incorporated the Z51 items and GM no longer offered the separate Z51 option.

Thanks guys, I kind of incorporated 2 topics in one thread. I guess to summarize, the dealer would have all the options on the car (duh) or the glove box door as well. As for the ride, ANYTHING is better than the early C4 Z51 which I had! F55 is nice, but not really needed. The softest ride is probably the base or F55 in the "soft" mode.
About right?

I wish my GS 2LT came with the NPP

The only thing you would notice is that with the heavier Z51 sway bars and bushings it would corner flatter than a base C6. A lot of guys on the forum have switched their base C6 sway bars and bushings for the Z51's so that their car will handle better in the turns.
