Front Bumper Film

Has the protective film ever been a factory option or is it always an aftermarket item?
Mine needs to be removed and I dont want to damage the paint.
If any of you have removed one how did you do it?

Watching this, I want to have mine done, the installer says it is totally removable. Just want the bumper cover done, no higher though.

I'm sure a place that installs hem could take it off for you. I've never done it but I think it involves heating it up to get it to peel off.
