Default OnStar price increase

Got an email from OnStar today, and it's seems they're changing their "Directions and Connections" plan and raising the price. I have that plan on two cars (was too lazy to change to a cheaper one when the free period ran out) and it's going up to $35/month/vehicle, plus taxes if there are any. They're adding 30 minutes of phone time, which I've never used, even when it was free. I think the old rate was about $25 plus taxes.

Looks like I'll be doing a plan reduction, or even cancellation.

I have always looked at Onstar as a total ripoff and wouldn't pay $5.00 a month for it. If you have GPS or a cellphone what does Onstar do in addition for you...open your door if you're locked out. In my 50+ years of (legally) driving I've been locked out of my car once and a cop got me back in within 5 minutes.

Pressed the button to talk with the rep because the dealer asked, but never joined. I don't see a point.

The point is my wife likes it, and I kinda like it for her too if she's driving alone.

It also alerts OnStar if you're involved in a wreck. Otherwise, with all the gadgets most people have now, and most cars have now, it's really not necessary ... unless your wife insists on it.

Wait a minute, if it is going up $10 bucks a month thats $120 a year more and that sounds ridiculous. And even if it was $25 a month before that and you were paying it you are the biggest sucker around. I have the whole package "Safe and Sound" and "Directions & Connections" and I don't pay anywhere near even the old price of $25

Direction & Connections plan was $729 for 3 years. I was thinking about it, now I guess I'll pass.

Default Not Today

I had a free year of On Star service when I purchased my 13 GS. I called them on three different occasion and each time the computer answered and told me there was no one available to speak with me. I paid for the On Star equipment and pay to lug it around and it's so poorly managed, it less than worthless. For an electronic based service to remained unchanged for many years shows how far behind the times they are. On Star is the Comcast/Time Warner of the Auto Industry.

Never needed OnStar and hope I don't but it does seem like a rip off / waste of cash.

I have just the base OnStar plan (lockout, emergency contact etc) for like $12/month. I think its worth that, but I don't think I'd pay more for the Directions plan.

I had the initial free trial and never used it one. I Replaced Onstar with a Costar Bluestar module and have never looked back. Took my thirty minutes to install.

The iphone integration with the Bluestar module and the Onstar Mirror/Microphone/Stereo Speakers just kind of works.

If I need directions, iPhone. Need to make a call, iPhone. Need help, iPhone. The only thing I give up is the theft recovery and there are other solutions for that problem.

I have received multiple nasty grams from Onstar since not conveting the initial trial to live service. It seems to be a constant theme reported that they play hardball with non-subscribers. The last message told me that they wanted me to hook Onstar back up to allow them to deactivate service. Seriously.....they can go pound sand.

The lowest price plan now is $20/month ($200/year if you pay yearly).

Does OnStar negotiate rates like SiriusXM does?

A month ago, I did ask them for a special annual rate (as i know single month rates are higher) and this is what they offered. I'll have to double check now but I think it was $160-$169/year? So I guess its more like $14/month instead of $12.

If I later renew and the best is $200/year, I'll likely NOT renew, as $160/yr is already about at my "worth it" threshold for the service.
