Default installing longtubes on 05 coupe

Just curious if anyone has any tips/tricks to make it easier for me when I go to installing these longtubes. Bought a set of jba stainless longtubes at a great price. Just trying to get heads up on things to look for. What does everyone do with the egr?? I do have a lift to use so that'll help a lot.

Headers install from the bottom up, so ARP studs with nuts work a lot better than trying to reuse the OEM manifold bolts (gives you something to hang the header off of until go in from the top to install the nuts, and with a full in bed of the studs before you install the headers and nuts, less likely of stripping out the head thread channels as well.

thanks for the input. Also do you know if there is a egr system that I need to deal with? I think I remember seeing on the passanger side manifold something coming off the top of it does this sound right?

I was also wondering what are the odds that the factory manifold bolts will come out without breaking??

No egr on my 06. Use factory exhaust gaskets. The ones that come with headers are junk. Do not tighten headers to block until the x pipe is connected. I made this mistake. Tightened headers down then went under car and x pipe wouldnt line up. Had to loosen header bolts and connect x pipe to headers then tighten the header bolts.

also, go ahead and run your o2 sensor extenders before installing. once the headers are in, it is a major pain in the a$$ to run the wires after the fact.especially getting to the connector for the rear o2 sensor. also reuse your factory manifold gaskets between headers and heads. they seal a lot better than those that will come with the headers.

Awesome thanks for all the heads up. I bought just headers so after I install I will have to take to my muffler guy for running the rest of the exhaust

i didnt, but studs will make it easier since it can get awkward trying to hold the header, hold the gasket in place (especially using the factory gm, which i recommend) and trying to start a bolt with two hands. Once you get one started you are ok, but that first one you will be cursing.

Thanks again for the replys. There will be at least 2 of us working on it so maybe that'll help with the bolt gasket issue, you recommend a new oe gasket or just the factory one on the car?

nothing wrong with reusing the old one, but they are cheap and your dealer should have them in stock.

You don't need studs. I would soak the manifold bolts with wd40 the night before or a couple of hours prior to remove them.

Yeah I soaked the bolt in pb blaster and it'll be a week or more before I remove them. I did break 3 bolts loose but it wasn't too bad tow broke free easy and one I had to tap with very little force with rubber mallet but came loose easy there after. Thanks again for all the great advise
