rebuilt 08 what's it worth
Gentlemen this vette was on ebay and I talked to the owner he said the car looked like it had gone through a chain link fence backword. He said there was no structural damage just body panels. As you can see he replaced them with Grand Sport panels. Title says rebuilt not salvage. I don't know what the difference is. What would this be worth?
Thanks

I don't know what it's worth, but do you have the knowledge to go over it in detail? Or are you going to buy it sight unseen?

Yikes, that title would scare me away. Especially at that price. You can buy some really nice 2008's for that with a clean title. I would pass on it dude. If you are set on a rip off GS make an offer, but I wouldn't think it would be worth anywhere near 28K.

truthfully I know very little about new vettes. After looking at a few threads here I found that the body panels are just that, panels and are secured with screws. the seller said they where THE Corvette shop in Memphis or whatever that's worth. would you recommend PPI. if so does anyone know a reputable shop in Memphis.

Personally, I would probably pass on it. I bought a used, one owner 2008 two years ago, (not a GS) but with less than 1/3 the miles for about the same price. But, its your decision.

"Rebuilt" means it was originally salvage, IE written off.
Three strikes on it:
Rebuilt
Modded
68K miles
All of these, even the mods, tend to decrease the value in the eyes of most buyers, though the branded title is the biggie. As a rough rule of thumb, mods add zero value, and re-built titles are worth half what the value would be if the title were clean. In some cases, with cars like Vettes, they might fetch 60 to 70% if the extent of the original damage as well as the quality of the repairs are well documented so that buyers have confidence with what they are getting, and can also retain all the documentation to help sell it to whatever low-ball buyers they end up selling it to later on.
Most people, myself included, won't by re-builds, period. For that reason, it is a thinly traded buyers' market. Or, at $28K for this car, a sucker's market, sadly.

Rebuilders/Flippers will argue violently against what I just said.
Ask ANY Chevy dealer what they would pay for such a car!

first off, there is no 2008 grand sport.Secondly,68000 miles??? 28 grand??That isn't even a good price for a car that has a clean title, never mind one with rebuilt. You can buy a real 08 with 14-15000 miles for about the same money. Don't waste yours on this car. It's worth squat.

As to the shop, it's a paint and body shop as far as I can tell but I know nothing else about it. I'm sure the usual searches will turn up all the info you want.

Unless you want to keep that car forever, I would pass. Too many miles anyway for a rebuilder.

I would stay clear of the car you found on eBay no matter how cheap you could buy it. If you want to set a value if everything had been repaired go to edmunds.com and get a private party value and then cut that in half. I would not pay a dime over 14k at the most for the car you linked too.
I have owned 25 vettes over the years and purchased one that had a restored title. It was a stolen vette that was recovered undamaged after the insurance company had paid off the original owner. I had documentation proving the car had not been damaged in any way but being the insurance paid it off as a total loss to the owner it could no longer have a clean title when the insurance company sold it at auction.
When it came time to sell I could not find any buyers that were willing to pay more than half of what a similar clean title one would go for. Finally found a buyer who had been looking for a 86 pace car convert and was willing to buy it even with the restored title. He told me straight out that he would have paid me twice as much as he did if the title would have been clean.
This is a photo of the 86 pace car with the restored title on the day the new owner came to pick it up. I owned it for 18 years and it had 105k miles on it, all the paint, exterior trim and wheels were completely original and unchanged from the day it was delivered new.

It's not even a real Grand Sport is it? Sounds like it's a base C6 with a wide-body kit. And all the "mods" they've done don't really make the value go up ... ask those who have poured money into modding and see if they got their money back ... some get none back.
For comparison, almost 3 years ago I bought a CPO base with 12500 miles and it cost $36K. This one is a year older, has basically a salvage title, has five times the mileage, has been modded out the wazoo, and costs more.
