Best reply to "How fast have you driven....?"
First of all let me clarify - I'm not asking how fast anyone has driven in their Vette - legally, or otherwise.
Having never previously owned an awesome car until a few months ago, it's been a learning experience for me to know how to respond to the expressions of others:
-I've learned how to respond to the "Nice car!" acknowledgements.
-I've learned to appropriately handle.... challenges by other hot rods.
-I love the interaction with young kids (and adults) who just want to look at it, or just have a chance to sit it the Vette.
-I have "Saved the Wave" - have received some wave-backs in a limited number of opportunities.
A new one for me today:
Drive thru attendant asked me, "So how fast have you been in that?"
It caught me off guard and I paused before responding, "Uhhh.... fast enough...but I still had a couple more gears to work with!"
Any other clever responses?

I say "135" because that's how fast I've had it up to in a controlled situation. It's just a question and your answer will depend on what you've really done.

In a routine police roadside check for current vehicle inspections and front plates ( $$ maker on late inspections), after a quick look to see if my inspection sticker was current, and that I was legal to run without a front plate, the lady police officer asked me; how fast does this car go?
Taken aback, I paused for a few second and responded.....it does the speed limit, and she said with a smile, good answer!

I'd be curious how you respond to those as well being a complete noob.

Sometimes it's a shake of the head if it's not worth it or driving conditions dictate otherwise. Gotta have a balance between maturity and just having fun - I've seen/read too much about others getting into trouble. I know what my car will do, and I don't necessarily have to prove it to anyone.
I even had a Prius pass me on the divided highway last week (not racing - just normal driving). I noticed, but it didn't really bother me at the time as other vehicles often choose to drive faster than me on the highway. Since then, it just doesn't feel right. I may change my mind next time.
Edit: JayPP2015 - I noticed you also have an A6. I recommend taking it out of D and using S mode with paddle shifters - not all the time, but enough to know what you are doing if the need ever arises. Otherwise, I think the automatic drops to 2nd if your foot gets heavy too quickly -even at 50 mph or so. TCS can also be nice to keep your rear end from getting loose...unless you want it to....

Both are circumstantial - Often it's a smile/wave/nod. Sometimes extra fuel is used. You can usually read what response is desired. I have an '07 without modified exhaust, so often wish I had held out for an '08 or newer with NPP.

I have told friends the truth. It was just the first time I've ever had a non-friend [stranger] ask, so I wasn't really prepared with a good answer.
