tire fiasco I need to vent.....
After reading a lot of threads I decided to replace the GY EMT with 12k on them with the Pilot SS ZP. I was taking my car to the dealer for the headlight recall and to fix the glove box latch.
I printed out an online price quote from NTB, handed it to the service writer, asked if they can match price, he agreed and after discussing install equipment, road force balance etc, I told them to order.
I was impressed with the price$1400 installed, and I even called him the next day to verify correct Michelin part number for the GM 2014 SS ZP on the Stingray, he confirmed and He told me 2 days to get the tires, so I let them keep the car as I was going out of town.
That was 2 weeks ago.
5 days after I dropped off the car the dealer called, car was done. I was at work so they valeted it to my house (5 miles)
When I got home my shiny red 2007 C6 was in the driveway. Upon inspection, much to my dismay they totally F..d Up!
My rear installed tires are Pilot SS 103Y non runflats, Even worse the fronts are Pilot AS3 . So not even the same tire model!!!!
Needless to say I am ready to kill.... The dealer is having difficulty locating the correct tires, as are several tire shops, They want the new incorrect tires back with no mileage, want to make it right but are offering no concessions.
I've lost all trust and confidence in the dealer, but really have no choice but to wait another week for them to locate and have shipped the correct tires, and swap.
Any other suggestions on how to get my car back on the road and make the dealer pay????

I had a similar problem, they put on NON runflats when I ordered the runflats. Yes they want the tires back with no mileage, so I had to let the car sit a few days until they got the correct tires, and they put them on.
My recommendation is that you wait it out, get them to put the correct tires in place, and never go back to that dealer. No, you are not going to get any concessions or pain & suffereing money, just get the right tires and move on.

The operable word here is "dealership". More often, than not, these visits do not turn out well. Especially, for tires. You should have taken it to a TIRE shop. Good Luck with this mess.

I know you were headed out of town but one of the things I insist on is seeing the tires before they are installed. I do that on every car I have tires installed on. Most times, unlike the Vette, it's more to look at the tread depth and inner construction. Not that I am a tire expert but at least I have an idea of what I am trusting my life to. I also do that to be sure they have them available. Nothing worse than getting half way through the job and then having to wait while they "get one from the other store". Good luck and keep us posted on how it turns out!

Even tire shops can F up tire installs. Discount Tire in Mansfield TX ordered my Mich AS3 ZP that I pre paid for then never called me to come in. I called them and went in for the install and to replace a bent rim. Reminded them which rim was to be replaced, but as I watched they started to mount a tire on the bent rim. Got them to use the new rim. Went inside to talk to Mgr while they finished up. TPMS was not reset, and tires were out of balance.
Went to another DT that said they could RF balance them. There were no weights at all on the new rim. Front tires had not been balanced, backs were fine.
Will not use Mansfield Discount Tire again.

Thought I'd add the C7 thread so all can either agree or disagree; you can see which side I'm on. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...survey-gm.html

Tire shops can screw up too. Some years ago, maybe 20, I had a Mitsubishi 3000 GT. I think it took something like a 245-55-16 tire. NTB put 55 series on one side of the car, and 50 on the other. Not only that, the tires were unidirectional and they had them going the wrong direction.
Mark it down to inexperienced installers (and maybe poor management).

find an independent guy who comes to you or a small local Corvette shop who takes pride in their work

For all that want tires done right ------ call Tire Rack tell them what you are using you car for, they will recommend the best tire for you , ship it to one of thier recommend installers and enjoy it done the correct way.

I have used Discount Tire/America's Tire before with good results, but when I purchased tires through Tire Rack (nobody else had them) I used their recommended tire installer. All was well.

Like was said above.. its always a good idea to check the dates on the tires. Ive had an instance where one of the 4 tires was close to 2 years old while the rest were 3 months old.

I couldn't agree more. You would hope the dealer who sold your car would have the best service to back it up, but where I live it's a disaster to take your car back to the dealer. I bought a brand new GMC truck from one of the local dealers and to my surprise the tires were out of balance on a new truck. It took two trips to get the tires close to being balanced and they still didn't ride smoothly. I gave up and I'll never visit that dealer again. If they can't balance tires what will happen if you have areal problem?
