Got a strange compliment today.
Very friendly guy walks up to my 06 coupe in a parking lot. As I'm rolling the window down, he's telling me how much he likes my car. I told him thanks, I appreciate it. He then proceeds to tell me that those new ones just don't compare to this Z07. Always nice to hear the compliments, but this one was unique. Nice guy though.

I have a 2008. A few months ago, some guy (about 65 years old) stops his car in a parking lot as I was getting into my corvette and rolled down his window to tell me what a sharp looking car I had. He said that my car must have cost me at least $70K or more to have purchased. (he was being serious, wasn't joking). I said LOL...No, maybe close to $70K when it was brand new, but this is a 2008! We're in 2015 now! He gave me the 'blank puzzled look'. He thought my vette was new! As if it was an exotic Ferrari or something. LOL
I had another guy like 80 years old ask me what kind of car it was LOL I think some of these old guys just don't remember anything beyond a week ago, so when they see a C6 corvette from any year, they think it's an exotic Ferrari or Lamborghini.

We had a guy in a pickup truck stop short of the red light in the lane next to us. Looked the car up and down and said " that is one sweet *** ride.... makes me want to get out and lick it" We just laughed and said thx.

Your post is nothing more than an thinly veiled attempt to satisfy your own ego, at the expense of older folks. Total BS!
Bash older folks all you want, but if there's any demographic group that is into Corvettes it's the older crowd.
Now, if you said these comments were made by 20 year old college kids, driving ricers, or a woman in her 30s driving a Prius, I'd believe you.
But older guys that don't recognize Corvettes, who are you kiddin'.

Why is age (or lack of) it so important on this forum?

Its not an age thing...Corvettes are the most recognized and desired sports car in the USA..From an outsiders view point they all look the same and all look expensive....Women, kids, young and old, blue collar, white collar they are all mesmerized by it.....
Plus expensive is relative ...not many people are going to drop 50 to 75k on a two seater, in reality it is quite impractical....at one time the 06 was up there and if yours is clean it still looks like its a 50k + car.
I had a 2008 black coupe and parked it next to a Z07 at a show once and mine got all the attention...of course it looked like this...

My wife and I were waiting at a stop light jammin ' to some tunes and the guy in the truck next to me starts talking. Can't hear him.... So I lower the volume in order to listen to what he's asking us. I'd say he and his wife were in their seventies and he's driving a beautiful new, black extended cab 4x4 pickup with a nice lawn tractor in the back. He leans down and our necks kinda twist and stretch up to make eye contact.
"Beautiful car you've got there." I say, "Thanks, you have a nice truck, as well." He then asks, "Do you want to trade? I'll even throw in a Mother's Day gift that's sitting in the bed." We both laughed. The funny thing is, his truck probably cost more than my car.
I think someone above hit it on the head. These cars are eye-catchers and considered an American dream...so to speak. They're also two seaters that are thought of as frivoulous, 'rich' people vehichles. On this particular drive with my wife, the car was turning heads everywhere. It's brings so much attention that I'm almost embarrased some times. It's fun, don't get me wrong, but in certain ways, with today's society, many categorize you as a "One Percenter," and I definitely ain't in that group. And we all know how most people feel about that tier of affluence.
Anyway, the car is fun, though....

True story.
It's March '09, no one knows if GM's going to survive, dealers had to be wondering about heir immediate future.
At my dealer I'm focused getting my bride a CTS4, noticed the '08 JSB 2LZ Z06 had been sitting in the showroom over a year unsold.
Thought I'd see how desperate they were to off the car, so asked what they'd discount it, and, offer me for my '06 Z51 w/ MZ6. Wasn't serious, but WTH.
They knocked $12K off MSRP for Z06, offered $30K trade. Hmmmm.
Instead of making a snap, emotional decision I took a stroll through their lot to think. Passed a half dozen Escalades. Not one under $100K
I bought the Z06.

My 09 has only 13K miles and I've had to professionally polished and re-coated with urethane. People walk up to me all the time in parking lots and gas stations and they are shocked when I tell them it's 6 years old.

Your right I get the same thing. I must admit I bought my C6 on a whim and someone asked is that a GS I said I don't know. Then I went home and looked up GS and say the difference. I had this car for 7 months and never knew the difference. But now I can tell what a GS is.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I think you'll find quite a few "older guys" who view cars as a way to get from point A to point B and have no clue what a Corvette looks like, especially the last several generations.
