A couple of years ago the balancer got a new part number, no one knows if there was any improvement in the quality. I haven't heard of newer ones needing re-replacement yet, but they are mostly low miles.

Car is also getting the oil pan gasket replaced (oil leak) at the same time, also GMPP.
I have replaced 12 or so of these balancers.GM has not made an improved version yet. GM replacement part on my own car lasted 4 thousand miles which was very disappointing to say the least.I replaced with an ATI 30,000 miles ago with no wobbles or issues since.my cost on the job with ATI was 1/2 the cost of GM.Seems a lot on here are in denial and there should be no wobble in anything spinning at 6,500 rpm.the 05 and 09 cars both needed replacement again due to elastomer delamination failure.good luck with your replacement

So help me out here. Are you suggesting that a wobble is good...or bad....or doesn't really matter ?

Updated update:
Got the car back today, I paid the few bucks to get the front crankshaft seal and both belts replaced. No labor charges, just parts.
Both our 2006 and this 2009 had a slight wobble in the HB from the beginning, this one got only a little worse during the first 85k miles but the wobble increased significantly between 85k and 90k. The new balancer has no visible wobble at all, so it's truer than the original. I'll try to give further updates as the miles increase.

Oil pan gasket also replaced, no oil on the garage floor yet.

This.

All C6s with factory HDs are at risk for this approximately $1000 problem; however, many, and probably the majority of C6 owners never have this problem.

I am in the middle of replacing the HD on my 93,500 mile C6, which has squeaked for about 60,000 of those miles.

Bottom line, yes, it is a problem, no it does not affect all C6s, there is no way to tell if yours will need one (another), it is not an in curable defect, it does not fail catastrophically overnight, and the only sure fix if you have the problem is to replace it with a good aftermarket HD.

Enjoy your C6!

Just picked my car up , they did a great job and the new one has absolutly no wobble

New balancer, new belt and a alignment ( they removed the rack) ...

Was treated like a king from the moment I walked in the door

I am covered for 5 years and 100,000 so I am not worried at all . If it wobbles again I will go back under warranty and repeat the process which was painless at my dealer "Rick Hendricks of Buford

That's great Dave, I wish all trips to the dealer were like that. Did you go OEM or aftermarket

Since it was covered 100 % by my warranty I went OEM

When I made the appointment last week I asked the service advisor to check with Parts Dept. to see if they had it in stock as I did not want to drop it off and then have to wait on parts

Parts did have it in stock

Dropped car off at 7:00 AM and got the call at 2:30 PM that it was done

I am a crazy stickler with all my cars and I am telling you I did not even have so much as a finger print on my car when I picked it up and everything under the hood looks like it was never touched.

This is the second time I used their services and I would not hesitate to use Rick Hendrick Chevrolet for any work that I can't perform

Dave

I am in the process of replacing the harmonic balancer on my 2013 gs c6 corvette with 40,000 miles. From all i have read, it is and has been a recuring problem with all the LS engines. Heres my question...why hasent the factory recognised the problem and fixed it??
It is an easy fix!

My first guess would be that the factory doesn't think that the failure rate justifies the worry. We never can ever seem to get a good read on the failure rate here in this forum...30....50...70%? And who knows what the failure rate is in the non forum Corvettes. And then of course the old question of how much wobble is a failure? Theres probably quite a few of them that wobble, but if they wobble enough for replacement is another story. So my un educated guess on why they don't address the problem is simply because they don't think that there are enough of them that have "Failed" to worry about.....

I have 126K on my early 07. It's on its third HB. The first failed at about 60K miles. The second was defective out of the box and had to be replaced immediately. The third feels like it's about to go.

I've had it with the OEM HB. They're an engineering embarrassment. They're a cash cow for Chevy service departments. This summer I'm planning to have it replaced with this:

ATI Performance Products 917266 GM LS 7.480 Harmonic Damper - SFI
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019XETR20/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I23PIXMVN3YILT&colid=10N4BCOTC3Y6Z&psc=0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019XETR20/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I23PIXMVN3YILT&colid=10N4BCOTC3Y6Z&psc=0

The following parts would be optional for most folks, but Red has an E-Force 1593 supercharger and high mileage:

ARP 2342503 Stud Kit (a.k.a. "big *** bolt")
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001D0MJNC/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I699KD78EIAH5&colid=10N4BCOTC3Y6Z&psc=0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001D0MJNC/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I699KD78EIAH5&colid=10N4BCOTC3Y6Z&psc=0

Timken 100470 Crankshaft Seal (it's time)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000JZWYUA/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I3QLS5S0QG4X8G&colid=10N4BCOTC3Y6Z&psc=0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000JZWYUA/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I3QLS5S0QG4X8G&colid=10N4BCOTC3Y6Z&psc=0

ATI Performance Products 918993 Crank Pin Drill Fixture Kit (better than the Edelbrock pin kit that prevents an unkeyed HB from slipping)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003NFBPBM/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2XIZ9G59TWUXX&colid=10N4BCOTC3Y6Z&psc=0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003NFBPBM/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2XIZ9G59TWUXX&colid=10N4BCOTC3Y6Z&psc=0
