Default Wife locked inside the Vette

2007 Auto trans, 400HP engine.

I received a call from my wife she was locked into the car. Doors wouldn't open, windows would not roll down and the engine would not start. The tails lights are on and the only clue I have is "Vehicle Service Soon" on the Digital display.

Fortunately I was able to talk her through removing the top to get out. The battery which is only about 30 months old is running down as I type. Is there a reset I can do to regain control of the vehicle so it can be driven to a dealer?

I disconnected the battery for about 10 minutes and that didn't help.

What about the "door pull" near the floor on each side?

Or you could have told her to look down on her left side by the seat and pull the emergency handle to open the door....

Sounds like the battery has given up the ghost....not unusual despite being only 30 months old. Try hooking up a battery charger for several hours to see if it will take & hold a charge. Otherwise pull the battery & have it checked at a local auto parts store. Stay away from the dealer until you're sure the problem is not the battery. If they install one for you it will cost you twice what a premium Sears or AutoZone battery will cost.

Isn't it funny how those emergency door release handles are all to often forgotten?
Hope you got the starting and electrical issues solved. Battery???

OK guys; I think I found the problem. I had a Garmin GPS hooked up, left on, and it pulled the battery down. I removed it and then I noticed clicking by the battery compartment. So I measured the battery and it was low.

I hooked up a charger and regained control of everything. So I will give it a good charge and see how it goes. This battery was replaced less than 3 years ago by the dealer so I hope it it not gone south on me yet.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I will teach my wife about the emergency latch and we will do a few drills to make sure. This is her daily driver and I don't want tho get a call from her trapped in hot parking lot with no way to get out.

The FOB is useless when the battery is low in the car.

We never had to use it before so I guess the lesson for everyone is to learn the escape methods.

And, not to be overwhelming, to read the owner's manual before you need it, such as emergency methods to open doors and trunks when battery is dead. It is her car; maybe you gently suggest it to her.

Have to ask, do you know how to get in the car if the battery is dead?

If you have an Owners Manual it may be time to familiarize yourselves with the cars' functions/features.

If you drained the battery I would replace it, especially considering how old it is.
Once they are totally drained they are soon history.

I agree. C6 are not very tolerant of weak batteries. I upgraded my Alt to a 170A unit, could tell a difference ....much smoother idle.

I find it amazing how un-familiar some people, who own these cars, can be with the functions of their cars.

I believe the word is "clueless".

I don't mean to offend anyone, buy, good grief, read the owners manual. It might even save you some money, or perhaps, your life !

Not only do owners need to know about the emergency levers in these cars, passengers should be informed as well in case of an accident/emergency.

Good point! My wife certainly doesn't know about it and she really should even though she never drives it.

The driver needs to know first.

I have never used the pulls. I need to remind myself of them on occasion

After I ran my battery down and recharged it I had to replace it less then month later.

But yes people should be aware of the door pulls for this sort of thing. I was on a cruise with my wife, and locked her in by walking away from the car with the fob in my pocket.

I see that lever every time I vacuum the car. Pretty hard to miss.
