I recently was looking at a 2006 C6 and couldn't get over how the Hud looked slightly out of focus.
After reading through the forums here I'm betting the car did not have the "Hud" glass.

no problem at all. I have seen it before. My eyes can not pick out the difference. Was at my stepbrothers who has a Z with the HUD glass and he couldn't really tell. Said may a little crisper around the edges. The cars were side by side so it was very easy to compare. The Safelite tech who did my repair( does my fleet service as well), actually stated to leave because he said the glass was wrong.

I would think if your talking out of level that would indicate the HUD camera itself is not properly positioned or fastened in your dash, out of focus could be the glass or a camera adjustment.

Had one of my older Corvettes windshield replaced with the NON HUD windshield, and immediatly noticed that my HUD was not as sharp as before. Had my latest Corvette windshield replaced with the HUD windshield and it still looks sharp to me. Some people can't tell a difference, but then again some people can't see certian colors.

I replaced the windshield in my 2011 GS with a non hud . It is very clear, works great. The only difference I can see is the dark strip across the top for the XM, other wise it is the same w/s. They just charge you $800. more for a "heads up windshield" when they all work.

Anyone with experience putting in non OEM windshield. I'm looking to put in Safelite HUD glass just not from GM. Difference is $759.00 vs $1300 at the dealer

Whether talking about replacing it yourself or having it done I would think there was no difference. If you plan on doing it yourself and have never done a windshield...good luck. I've put in quite a few but the first ones I did were your typical beater type cars....Escorts...Cavaliers....etc...etc . Not sure I would want to cut my teeth on a nice newer Vette. Esp. if your trying to get the old glass out in one piece.

- mine looked a bit off level when I bought the car 3 years ago.
- last year I had a new windshield installed (oem gm w hud + nav/onstar, done by safelite, paid by progressive less my deductible).
- after that the hud is still a bit off level, yet slightly less than before.
any "adjustment" would be a major effort, does not bother me much, usually have it on the circular speedo style anyways, goes better with all the other instrumentation, (its more visible on the line type display style).
there are other threads here about that topic.
a slight change in distance/curvature (is that a word?!)/angle of the windshield/hud unit relation would probably cause these varieties.
the sharpness and overall up/down location can be adjusted, the left/right leveling only by digging in deep.

When I picked up my car, the hud was out of focus. found out the detailers sprayed down the windshield and dash but did not wipe the hud glass. After I removed all of the gunk super sharp focus.

Just had AP Technoglass put in mine and no change in the HUD position level wise and HUD shows as clear as with the original glass. I did have to adjust it up a hair, not sure why though - maybe the tech adjusted it when he checked it after installation, but other wise no change.

My glass was replaced and my HUD is tilted a little. High on the left side. I cant see where the glass has anything to do with the tilt. Focus yes. Trying to decide if I really want a tech to pull my dash apart to repair it even though it is still under warranty. I even tried to tip my head and it didnt help.
