To keep our grandsport, or not
well last year, my wife and I were looking at 427 verts.. Problem was they were a little out of our price range. We found a 13 4lt heritage grandsport coupe, with 2000 miles on it back in September for a killer price.. We have loved the car, and as of yesterday the car has 7600 miles now.. I recently found a 427 vert locally for 51,000, with 7500 miles on it. It's a 1sc car. Basically the same interior level as our grandsport, minus the sued, and blu diamond color. I called the dealer just to check it out, and we got to talking. Aperantly my grandsport is easier for dealers to sell, so he was tossing the idea of just doing a straight swap. I am really considering it, but my wife is not a fan of the red 427 vette.. I am sure she will love it when she sees it in person. Our grand sport..

Man, I'd go for it!! If they're really willing to trade straight up, the dealer must have really boned the poor guy that traded it in. Or it's been in an accident or has had mechanical problems. Seems too good to be true.

you said he was "tossing" the idea around. Sounds like a ploy just to get you back over there.

Wait he called you or you called him about the car??
Like someone said, dealers will say just the right words to get you in the door. That's how they completed half of the sale.
If you called and inquired, that means you obviously have interest. When you get there, he can make up BS stories about how the car will be gone next week, 93893843 people looked at it before you showed up etc etc and throw numbers at you and you'll most likely take it.
I mean if you really like the car go for it, i think as a STRAIGHT up trade, it's definitely worth it. But i have a feeling it won't be.
That said, i'd love me a red corvette with black wheels. I have one myself so i'm a bit biased lol. But a white corvette is awesome too.
If it was me i'd probably not do it because just not feeling the convertible. Never was a fan of that, even if it is a 427.
Good luck!

I'll be Debbie Downer, do research on the motor so you know what you are getting into. Once that's addressed, or you get a good warranty you can love the car... Looks beautiful and a good price

If the dealer is being legit, then maybe he probably got the 427 at a steal and wants to move inventory because for some bizarre reason the 427 has been sitting a while. But car dealers are sometimes car dealers, and they'll just say stuff to get you to the negotiating table and then change their story. But you can always walk away from the negotiating table.
Personally, if it was for a daily driver corvette, I wouldn't get the 427 due to extra considerations with the motor. But if it's a garage queen/cruising car, then I'd consider it as long as the car is in perfect shape. With a "straight up" trade, you won't owe sales taxes.

That appears to be a fantastic deal.......almost too good, but if the car fax comes back clean, if it were me---I would jump on it. For background-----I don't think all the dealers are up to date on the 427's. My personal experience---last October and November 3-4 dealers were all offering me $57K as a trade-in for my yellow 427 with some 7,500 miles on it for a C7. For various reasons I didn't go thru with it (1 out of state dealer got mad that I asked a Forum member near him to check out the car to see how good or bad the orange peel was; and 2nd stopped all communication via email and phone when I asked if the deal we had 99.9% worked out could be applied to the DSOM C7 that was in transit to them????, etc).
In any event, this April another dealer gave me $60K on a trade for a new 2015 Z06 they had coming in. They could have sold the Z06 in a heartbeat (unbeknownst to me at the time, at least two members of my club were waiting for it to arrive on the dealer's lot before they were going to buy it). During this process I learned the dealer really knew nothing about the 427. It was the 1st one they had seen (3 dealers in a year told me the same thing). They had no clue it had 505 HP. No clue they were all sticks and standards. No clue it was a limited edition car.
A big dealer in RI (Masse) had a 427 on their lot for quite awhile (under 1,000 miles). It sat there for months (may even still be there). I think because they have no clue about the car and were advertizing it as an automatic------which, in my mind mind would scare off any potential buyer as the impression left of the dealer is not very favorable, and in turn, makes one wonder about the car. A club member said he knows the family that trade in the car and said it was a gem.
My point being, your dealer may be having a hard time selling the 427 because they just don't know how to advertize it, and they know little about it.
The facts are---it is probably the best C6 made; it is the 1st corvette convertible made with over 500 HP; it just might be the most powerful corvette convertible ever made in the history of corvette with a naturally aspirated motor; it is a 60th year car; it is a limited edition car.
And more importantly, it is a great car to drive.
And most important, the one you are looking at is torch red with black wheels-----doesn't get any better than that---see my avatar.
Best of luck with your decision-----my wife loves our torch red car........
