Street Tires Track Times (I need slicks!)
Title says it all!!! Great time and good numbers considering Orlando's 100 degree day and street tires. There was a good chunk of the Vette forum members out today for a friendly gathering. It was nice to put names and faces to people.
Track overall stunk. It was really hot out and the turn around was extremely slow. Was there for over 3 hours got two runs in. I mostly went just for the sake of meeting people and not for crazy great times/numbers (thanks to weather).
Anyways two runs both 11.40 and 11.43 and both at 133.x MPH. I'm usually pretty consistent for a manual transmission.
Enjoy pics and video! Inside car video is 60fps if you go to their actual website and watch it in HD. Really gives the sense of speed.
1st run against the Jeep I just gave him the jump as I was more concerned about launching. This is the in car camera run. 2nd run just about sums up drag radials versus street tires. Can't really get much more out of a street tire at this power level. 127mph to my 133mph trap I was catching him at the end. Just not enough track to do it.

Sorry I missed you again, we left around 1 or so, the heat and no breeze was something else. Harley09's canopy/tent was a life saver!!
I ran one pass with mine early (around 11 am), but when I went to third, my clutch petal stayed to the floor. I thought I missed third, but saw I didn't. I patted the petal with my foot, and it returned to normal position.
I thought I could smell my clutch, and was paranoid of problems, so I decided not to run again. The car is doing fine now, or so it seems, all the way back to Daytona, no slippage issues, and I gradually got on it during shifting, the closer I got to home. I have an extra floor mat, maybe it flipped up, I dunno....
I'm gonna change the clutch fluid, and borrow a small fiber optic borescope, and inspect everything around the clutch disk area that I can tonight.
Harley09 had a good run with his C6 though, he was well down in the 10's!
It was nice putting faces with other forum members cars there too.

It sounds like the Central Florida Vette guys had a good time despite the heat and that you beat the afternoon rain! I would have liked to have been there but just too much going on this past weekend not the least of which was my wedding anniversary! I will be back out next Saturday with my C5 for the bracket points race.
I hope you guys do it again soon and by then my C6 GS nearing completion by Matt @ FSP will be ready to go.

133 in 100^F heat is flying. Sounds like a very good day to me!
I'm not sure drag radials would do much... my best is 10.8 @ 139 on DRs, but not trying to kill parts (think it would just spin with more rpm at launch anyway).
Unless you're racing a LOT at the strip, just enjoy it for what it is... its a low-10 car on the street or road course from a roll. And your driveline will last as long as you own it running street tires.

I know what the car is capable of and it's not worth me breaking stuff to get there. I just went on dragtimes website to calculate density altitude just for kicks...
According to them:
Track Elevation: 106 feet above sea level
Air Temperature: 91 degrees (felt much hotter but still stupid hot and heat index makes 100)
Barometric Pressure 30.17"
Relative Humidity 55%
Density Altitude 2,225 feet above sea level

Two comments and a question.
comment 1: My 69 Mustang 302 convertible has run 0.5 sec quicker than that jeep. (14.308 @ 99.1 mph)
comment 2: Every late model Mustang that I beat at the drags with my 00 Z28 A4 claimed that he was "catching me" at the end of the pass or that he "missed a shift".
question: I am assuming that your Vette is not stock since I would have imagined that a stock LS3 C6, like mine, would probably be good for mid 12s. Is that the case or is my SOTP dyno screwed up?
By the way, I don't know about these Corvettes, but with the LS1 Camaros, if you really hooked solid, you were likely to blow up your stock rear end. I agree with you. Stick with the streets.

I wasn't watching the gauge but it runs between 11.7 and 12.0psi depending on weather conditions. Likely around 11.7/11.8.
I was there by 12:15 maybe I was there and you didn't know it was me This was my first rodeo out with the Mantic twin-disc. Much better track clutch than the stocker. I've had my stock one do that plenty of times. It'll live.
Oh I got a nice downpour on the way home. Free car wash and RE-11's are fun in the rain....
As for comment two just do the math on the time slip. I did the 1/8th mile to 1/4mi in less time and gained more MPH. He took 3.87 seconds to gain 26.8 MPH. I covered that same distance 3.74 seconds and gained 29.2 MPH starting at a higher speed (104.2 vs 100.8). Ummm...yeah I was catching him decently.
Lastly, assuming my Vette isn't stock is probably a good idea, especially considering it goes over 130mph in the 1/4 mile.

That's a nice low to mid 10 second car, once you get the launch near a 1.5 60' time.
Traction is the biggest problem for big power, as you're well aware. The wife's 4000# bone stock V6 Caddy STS cuts 2.1x 60's with almost no tire spin, since it's only 304 HP. 2.1's were all I could muster the first time out in my bone stock Vette too. As the power went up, I went to Hoosiers and I still need good prep to launch hard. Your traction problem is more severe than mine. I'm seeing DR's in your near future.

One of these days maybe I'll go out with drag radials and grab that 10 second slip I know it has in it.
I won't be running again until it's cooler weather out that's for sure. It was reassuring that even with methanol I only was down 1-2 MPH tops. My best MPH in winter was 135.2 and I hit 133.4 this weekend. Then again, no more boost leak. Should be interesting come winter.
