Tried to Vinyl wrap the Radio Console
Well, I bought a reasonably priced 4D wrap to do one of my spare radio console I had, and needless to say, it did not go well. I started at the top, so maybe that was a problem to start with. I don't have enough left over to try again, so maybe anyone that has done a radio console can chime in with any tips that may be helpful.
I was trying it alone, and I will admit that it is a 2 person project, one with the heat gun, and the other to stretch to fit on corners and bends.
I decided that I would paint this spare console with Graphite Krylon Fusion Textured paint, then clear coat it.
I have the base coat finished, and will clear tomorrow. I haven't taken any pics yet, but I will after completion and installation.
It dries real fast, and is chip resistant in 7 days.
I may try the wrap on the one that I remove, if the paint job goes well.

I wrapped mine from top to bottom.
I did it solo with a blow dryer in a room with the AC on max, haha.
I was watching a hockey game while I did it, so I missed a spot (didn't push out the air bubble) above the hazard light button.
It really just takes patience, but I'm to lazy to re-wrap due to that error.

I sent mine to American Hydrocarbon and let Pat do it!

You have the same wrap that I bought. I may try that again, when I have time and more patience
I see the bubble. Can't you just lift it up in that area and smooth that out?
I like the look of the wrap for sure.
Mine doesn't have the leather surround, so there is more bends and curves to navigate. With the leather surround, yours is mostly flat, so that would make it much easier to do.
No one does Hydrocarbon anywhere close to me, or that would be the primo solution for sure.

btw, that air bubble can be easily sucked out using a small needle or syringes. the syringe probably works the best. because you can make a small hole and slowly sucked the air out

I tried to squeeze out the air at the side but it was already stretched out quite a bit so it didn't conform very well.
I bought my vinyl off of amazon. Just search 3D textured carbon fiber vinyl and you'll see a bunch.

I manufacture real carbon fiber parts and found it best to always lay in the middle and work my way out, it eliminates distortions.
This is especially important for me since it is really difficult to maintain a perfect weave pattern if you are not using prepreg.
Don't know how much of that transitions over to laying vinyl, but that's my experience at least.

I got my 4D carbon fiber wrap off e-bay. 2x5 ft for $8.98
I clear coated the textured Krylon last night, and it was dry this afternoon, so I wet sanded with 2000 grit and it smooth out the texture, and looked pretty good so I installed it and here are a few pics.

That looks like it turned out good, I think I would try the wrap again

That area does not look like an air bubble. I looks like a lack of adhesion due to contamination either on the part or the film. In that case no amount of heat or pressure will correct it. JMSO from experience. It does look good.
