Default Rotors

Let me preface this by saying that I am not knowledgeable on rotors and, after searching various forum threads, opinions seem to vary greatly.

Here is my situation. I ordered powder coated calipers to match my car and will be installing them in a month or two along with ceramic pads in order to reduce brake dust. The stock rotors have a good bit of life left in them (~42K miles on the car), but wow are they rusty! I do not track or street race the car, nor do I show it, but I do want it to look good. Are zinc plated rotors worth considering in an effort to get rid of rust? If not, are there any other good options worth considering?

Thanks for your help and insight!
Glen

I like the DBA 4000 series with painted hats and are slotted. They have a few options.

JMO..I would not buy from Amazon! You can get OEM from some vendors on this forum..GM parts house,GM parts direct & others at a better price. Then get you a rattle can of high temp paint & paint the hats....

My problem is that the discs themselves have rust on them and, although it doesn't impact performance, the rotors just look bad compared to everything else. My fear is that if I go with the same thing, I will ultimately have the same problem. I will definitely keep your paint suggestion for the hats in mind, though.

Thanks!

Zinc plating costs around $6-7 per rotor if you have around 10 or more to be done. Find 2 friends to share the cost. The plater won't care if they're from other brands or sizes, since it still covers the minimum charge.

It's best to plate new unpainted rotors. Glass bead or other media never quite gets used rotors clean enough for a splotch free job.

I put zinc plated rotors on the Avalanche when I changed everything out last summer. So far so good, with no rust. The instantaneous flash rust on the rotors after washing the vehicle is one of the things I hate looking at. It may not stay on long, but it still looks like crap.

I got some aftermarket drilled and slotted rotors. Can't recall were I got them, they used to advertise on the forum. When I contacted them they were cheaper than the advertised price. Not as good looking as the Z51 rotors but OK. They are zinc coated and have held up well. These look similar to what I installed:

Thanks Rocketmanwpb! I do have the Z51 package and will take a look at that site.
