Default Tires rubbing on rear! Help!

Hi. my car is pretty low, i just got new tires 255/35/19 and 305/30/20 my wheels are 19x9 and 20x11. On the way home i could hear the rear wheels rubbing against the outside rear inner fenders. I know my car is lowered on stock bolts. What is the best way to stop the rubbing? Whats the best way to raise the back?

Ray,

I am out of town right now, (not sure how bad the rubbing is) if you can wait I can help you raise your car up some.

But raising it a little may not fix the issue, can you post a pic looking down the side of your car to show the tire and fender as it sits?

What is your rear chamber specs?

-add a negative degree of camber
-raise the rear a tiny bit

if that doesn't fix it

-sandpaper. you have about 2-3mm of an inner fender lip you can get out of the way.

if that doesn't fix it

-flares, or z06 rear quarters. : P

What are the offsets of the wheels?

And.........'typical' F/R aspect ratios for 19/20 tires are 30/25.

'typical' is wrong. 255/35/19 and 305/30/20 are very closely matched to stock overall diameter and keeps all of the systems happy. it's the same size I am running.

Hi DJ,

I sent you a text but I figured you were out of town or busy. Here is the picture of the car.

I went with your tire set up!! I love the look but I think my rear needs to be raised at least an 1" I can feel it ride way better then the 275/30/19 and 305/25/20 I was running

Yeah that's what I was running before I didn't like the ride. Seem to feel every bump with that skinny tire on the back.

I am assuming you have a base model because your profile is not updated and shows a 1998 model.
Now what could be your issue is the fact that your car is lowered and the new tires exceed that of the stock tires in overall height by .3 inches, which does not seem like much, but also they are an inch wider. Did you make sure that your new wheels had the same offset as the original wheels. The offset can make a big difference. The offset on your original wheel was +79mm. Even if you have the exact same offset the 1 inch increase in the wheel will have the wheel 13mm further out then the stock wheel. So if the off set is less then the 79mm, it will increase the outer clearance even more.
Finally, what year is the car and how many miles? If it is an early C6 with a good amount of miles is there maybe a little sag in the spring, worn bushing.

Even if you raise it an inch it will hit the fender if you hit a big bump.

Reminds me of the C3 when everyone wanted wide tires for more traction. Lots of busted Qtr panels.

From the photo, it looks like the wheel offset is wrong... the outer edge of the wheel appears to protrude past the outer surface of the fender. I may be wrong, but that what it looks like to me.

Bingo! I agree...it ain't the tires/lowering as much as the wheel offset.

I believe it is an offset issue also as well as the additional 1 inch wheel width as I mentioned above.

The wheels came on the car when he purchased it, This is what I was afraid of. Now that I see the picture, the offset is going to be an issue.

yikes! the offset looks too aggressive. even if you stepped down the tire size, I feel like you'd have some serious trouble making it work.

Looks like the rears could be Z06 offsets.

This may be obvious but, have to ask, are there spacers behind the wheels?

Perhaps a 'wide-booty' mod/upgrade is in your future.
