Default Looking for the previous owner....

Of a black/black 2010 M6 coupe. I will be purchasing the car from a chevy dealership in O'fallon IL. It has 20xxx miles on it. It was apparently traded in for a C7. I'm fully aware this is a total shot in the dark considering how many of these were made but I figured there was a chance I could locate the past owner. It is a one owner car in immaculate condition.

Thanks.

Unless the dealer will help you out it's really hard to find a previous owner on your car.

I would ask the salesman for the previous owners contact information. If you are talking about Jack Schmidt, they are pretty easy to deal with. I bought my 08 Vert from Tim in April. They took good care of me.

Yeah, thats pretty much my line of thought so either way its not a big deal. Its clearly been a garage queen and with that mileage and the clean history its really a non-issue.

Yup, that's the guy. Good to hear a vote confidence from a forum member.

He will remember me. I'm the guy who test drove the Corvette with the bad alternator. It's a good story....and they bent over backwards taking care of the issue and delivering the car to me on Monday. I would definitely buy from Tim again.

You might get get lucky and find out. When I traded my 2006 back in 2010 the new owner found an old insurance card and contacted me through Facebook. Over the years we have become good friends. In fact, we will be making our third trip to Carlisle in two weeks.

I've tried with other cars, and finding a previous owner can be a real challenge

The dealer can't give you that information, as it would violate confidentiality. However, if you ask the dealer to pass on your request for the previous owner to contact you, there is no problem. That's exactly what I did when I bought my current C6 from the dealer who originally sold the car and who accepted it as a trade-in on another car. A couple of days later I received a call and we had a nice discussion. Most Corvette owners understand why you would want to talk, and like to talk about their cars, so I'd say you have a high probability of getting a call.

Another route is to ask the dealer for any accompanying paperwork (receipts, etc.). Sellers often include this, and receipts often have the owner's name and contact information.

Thanks for all of the input fellas. I know I probably have nothing to worry about but as you all know buying a Vette isn't just buying a car. The dealer has been pretty good about keeping me up on the details so i'll see about it. If i cant get up with the past owner it's no biggie. I'll just enjoy my new car.

Most dealers will pass your contact info to the previous owner, as someone stated. Also, check the DIC (on both fobs)...the PO may have left contact info there.
Enjoy the Corvette experience.

When I bought my 08 C6 a few months ago, the start up message on the DIC still had the previous owners name as part of the message. The second FOB had his wife's name as the message. Of course I changed it right away, but you might check the message out on your car. Maybe yours will have the previous owners name like mine did. Just a thought.

Check inside the owners manual. Found a copy of the last owners insurance card with name and address on it.

When we have traded Corvettes in we are always open to talking with possible buyers of our cars. We have nothing to hide and maintain our cars to the best of our abilities so I try to give any prospective buyer the best description of the car I can.

If the previous owner isn't available I would question the purchase of the car.

Check with your State's DMV if no success through the dealer. You can run a Title History through the DMV.

Well as of 8-15-15 she has found her a new home in our driveway. Jack Schmitt Chevy were a pleasure to deal with and I have indeed found some info on the previous owner as well as the entire vehicle service history. It is certified pre-owned and has factory warranties. It was a nice two hour drive back from O'fallon and boy was it fun! Well except for St. Louis traffic anyways.

Pics to come.

And here she is. I would post pics of the interior but its dark outside and we all know what the inside of a C6 looks like. 2010, 2LT M6 with 21xxx miles on the clock. You can't tell from the angle but it has the transparent targa as well.
