SRT 8 Charger, Nope!
So I am out driving the other day in my 09 Convertible, (bone stock Z51) and I go to pass an SRT8 Charger at about 110 km/hr (65mph), he doesn't like this and punches the Charger. So not being one to dismiss a challenge I oblige him. I pulled away and kept pulling away right up to about 210 km/hr (126mph). This is where he gives up and backs off. Thought I would post this just for giggles.

The Charger is a half ton heavier. Acceleration would be slower, but I would think top end wouldn't matter what it weighs. Stopping it from top speed is another matter.

Charger guy is such a tool.
I haven't had any V8's play with me, but I did have a thugged out V6 hardass trying to impress his GF and buddy. I had about 4 bus lengths on him. V6 always drives like he's in a race.
I always have V6 Mustang/Camaro/Charger/300S/200S want to race and it's no challenge, I was next to an old 92-97 Viper last weekend. He wanted nothing to do with me. I'm ok with getting my a$$ handed to me, but a challenge would be nice.

Those chargers are a nice ride. Very comfortable and quiet with boatloads of interior space.
I would not own one as a pleasure vehicle, but they'd make nice DD's.

My wife's DD is a '14 SXT Plus in TorRed and you are right, they are a pretty nice commuter car. I was not too crazy when she decided on one but I have to say, after close to 2 years of ownership I am pretty impressed with the build quality. The base design goes back to the Mercedes days and it shows in the attention to the details in the chassis and sound deadening.

If I was going for an adult muscle car it would be a CTS-V rather than an SRT8 or Hellcat. I was also looking at them at the time I ended up with my GS.

Owning one of each (2008 Vette convertible & 2015 Challenger Scat Pack), I'd agree that the Vette kills the challenger off the line purely due to size & weight difference, but I'm not convinced in the long run if a standard LS3 Vette would win over the 6.4L Hemi.
The Z06 & ZR1 definitely would win (however probably not against the Hellcat), but the standard LS3 I think would lose in a straight up top end to top end run but unfortunately on normal streets you would never really know because you would never get the proper scenario to try it out safely or smartly without risking lives nor would I endorse trying that.
