I have a 2009 with 16,000 miles. when running the AC The air from my vents does not smell fresh. I've changed the cabin filter. What else can I do?

anytime you have a question, do a search on the C6 forum. Also take a look at the DIY & FAQ section in the sticky above- tons of great info.
Your question has been asked many times and there are many opinions on the best way to resolve the issue. I have done the following and had good success: with the engine running, AC off and fan on high, remove the cabin filter and spray a lot of Lysol in the opening where the filter sits (feel free to use a whole can!). You will get a pretty strong Lysol presence inside the car so feel free to open windows/doors/targa/vert- it will dissipate soon enough. Let the engine run for several minutes then you should be good.
Do this every couple of months and you should not have the problem any more.
Good Luck

Something else to think about is to have the after blow turned on. This runs the fan for a set time after the engine has been turned off. This helps dry out the system thus eliminating the musty smell.

Something else to try, if you don't have the after blower turned on is turn the A/C off, but keep the fan on, a few minutes before arriving home. This allows the system to get rid of much of the excess moisture built up and blow it out.

Thanks. Guess I'll wait until next summer. Weather is cooling off now probably won't be using AC much. Will do the trick of running the fan without AC for now...

If you have mold or mildew in your ac system, you can buy cans of
Lubegard 96030 Kool-It Evaporator and Heater Foam Cleaner. My car has just developed that lovely stale sweat or dirty sour rag smell. This is suppose to rid your ac system if you get that mildew smell. I'd rather sweat and open the window in the heat than run my mildewy ice cold air.

A few ideas....
....that have worked for me in the past.
1) Don't run with the re-circulate on. Helps to get some outside air going thru the system all the time. Open the windows once and a while at speed to get some serious circulation going.
2) Clean out the intake vents and screens by the top of the hood...stuff gets trapped in there.
3) Look for any water leaks in the carpet especially in the front of the floor wells closest to the dash. Sometimes drains get plugged up and overflow.
4) Set a mouse trap in the garage and see if you catch anything. They like marking their trails. Had one die in a 2003 C5 fan wheel assembly and had to sell the car even after I got it out. What a smell...count your blessings yours is just stale.
:cheers
