Headsup Display
My HUD pivot point is broken. And while there's a fix, I can't bring myself (yet) to have the dash taken apart. Meanwhile, I have a glare on my windshield during the day where the display used to be.
Has anybody come up with a good temporary "cover" to eliminate the glare?
Thanks in advance.

One of my friends got a piece of plexiglass the size of the opening, painted it black and put a small piece of velcro on each corner of it to keep it in place. Just an idea.

Thanks for this reply. Since your friend was successful, do youthink he-she would share the dimensions they used? It’s an odd shape. My Vetteis a C6. Thank you.

If it makes you feel better I have had my dash apart twice .it's easy
It comes apart easy
Disconnect the battery
gauge surround pops off
Switches in the surround have 3 screw each (easier than unplugging them )
Gauge cluster has 4(I think) 7mms screws and with the steering wheel all the way down comes right out
Then do the "duct cut" method to get to the HUD unit
Search these forums as there are may discussions about how to do it
Good luck

I don't have a squeak or rattle in my dash, or anywhere in the car. And while I've watched the DIY videos, I'm admittedly all-thumbs! I've found a guy here in Atlanta who has fabricated a replacement metal pivot point to replace the broken plastic one for $700 all-in. In the meantime, I just want to eliminate the glare in the windshield. Thanks for your reply and vote of confidence.

I just went to a department store and bought a black washcloth. Stuffed it in the HUD dash hole. It was certainly a temporary fix, but I couldn't stand that small mirror in the HUD reflecting. It didn't really show. All I did was fold it nicely before setting it in.

I second the black felt suggested by Rik. Cheap, easy to fit/trim as needed, completely non reflective.
I also agree that the dash dissection isn't really as scary as it may appear - especially if you use a digital camera and take lots of pictures in the process.
Rock Chalk!

, pop a few panels off gently you got it made
My next mod is adding HUD to my car as I had it on my last and now I miss it . With all the wiring I would estimate it to be a short day long job

It is easy and you don't have to worry about rattles squeaks and shakes . If you can turn a 7 mm and a 10 mm nutrunner or socket .

I agree that felt or some other fabric is the way to go, but if you want to make a template for cutting it first, just do this. Remove the targa top (or lower the convertible top) so you can stand up and look down at the head-up (not headsup) display unit through the windshield while your hands on the inside of the windshield. Place a sheet of paper over the hole and press it down around the edges to crease it slightly. When you pull out the paper, you'll have a nice template that you can cut out and use for the fabric.

I installed a HUD in my 08 using the cut the duct method, you don't even loosen a single dash mounting screw. Just remove the instrument cluster then cut and remove the air duct then you can remove and repair the HUD not hard to do at all.
