Default FNG needs your thoughts?

Ok all I need some answers from the pros. Looking at 2 cars First is a 2011 GS w/10k and the other is a 2013 GS w/27k both same price.
The 11 has everything, ie both fobs, all books, floor mats, rear shade. Its white with white headlights and chrome wheels. The 13 doesn't have books, floor mats, rear shade and only one fob. It's also white but has black headlights with black wheels. Other than that they are the same. Questions are
- How important are the original books that come with a new vet, what's wrong with replacements.
- Can a new fob be bought and I assume with only one fob I'll have to have a dealer program the new one.
- How do I tell if the black headlights and black wheels are a stock item on the 13 or not. What codes do I look for.
- Are all 13s the Anniversary addition? I see the 60 on the rocker plates but know that would be a easy change. Again what code will tell me?

I think that's all for now and I appreciate any and all responses.
Thank you
Cruiser

Lots of questions in there. I'd probably go with the '13 due to it having warranty, the new seats ('12 & '13 models only). I like black wheels and the black headlights. The other items can be picked up used for cheap, except the fob.

Look at the condition of the tires.

You can get replacement fobs.

I'm speaking personally and not as a Vette pro which I'm anything but. I'd not get the one with missing items or other questionable issues. To me, this speaks to lack of care in the PO and a general sloppiness which would put me off the car.

The Vette's systems are complex and you need the manual but I'm sure it can be easily replaced. It's not that you can't get shades, mats, fobs or manuals but why they aren't there.

I'd do the '11.

The black headlights could be optioned from 2011 on.
Look in the glove box at the codes and google the codes or easier yet have the dealer pull a gmvis report. This will give you the options plus any gm service work done.
Yes you can buy a second fob and program it yourself
Be aware fobs come in a #1 or #2
You will want one of each
Always nice to have the books but they can be bought used.
Figure around 50 bucks for book, 80 for a fob, 140 for matts.

I would go with the 13, the black lights I would imagine are factory. The book you can replace as well as the fob and mats easily.
Dealer can program the fob or you can do yourself easily. The fobs don't have to be 1 and 2 they are the same other than the numbers. That's just for the owner to differentiate for the memory settings tied to 1 and 2

Replacements are fine, but what happened to the originals ?

Fobs and dealer programming can be expensive.

Not sure on this one.

All 13'have the 60th logo on the sills and cluster.

Even though I have a 13 GS and love it, the 11 sounds like the better cared for car. There are some features that it will not have (upgraded seats, USB input too I think) but with all the missing stuff it smells like an auction car, while the older one sounds like it was loved. The 11 may need new tires, while the 13 may not. If they both are from dealers you could negotiate the missing items. Good luck.

Manual and extra FOB are easy to get, the changes in the 13 over the 11 are well worth, definitely go with the 13.

All 2013's came with the 60th door sills, badges front and rear, and a 60th symbol in the gauge cluster.

Keep in mind you also get a different seat back on 2013 (and 2012). The 2011 can be updated/upgraded. Also a few other interior changes.

Yes you can get another fob , and you don't NEED to have the dealer program it. You can do it yourself. However, I'd try and get an extra one thrown into the deal. (especially if it is a GM dealer you are buying from.)

The Dealer I bought my used DD Cadillac did that for me and it was a Chevy store.

The trim packages did change towards the end (I think 2012 and 2013 was the same), but 2lt in those last years got some of the 3lt stuff standard, so it might not be entirely apples to apples.

I don't know the codes but if the black wheels and headlights were factory there will be codes for that on the glovebox sticker. (Black wheels were popular in 2013 MY so it is probably factory)

In June I bought an 07. 5515 miles on clock. It only had 1 fob, no manual and missing the lever to tilt the steering wheel and the rear view mirror was loose had it fixed. I replaced them and sent bill to dealer and they reimbursed me. It wasn't too much$. Total $ 250.00. I got a check for
$ 197.35

We need more info on these two cars. Manual or auto? Post some photos of them. Get the glove box codes and post them. Price?

Sight unseen the '13!

The seats aren't a make or break item. Sit in them both, and decide on that issue. Low mileage is where it's at; definitely get the '11. The exhaust was changed for the 12 and 13, which in my opinion changed the tone. You may get a few more speakers, but who listens to the radio anyway. 17 thousand more miles is a lot of driving when considering a possible weekend/nice day only car.

Altho I'd agree that one "appears" to be more cared for, it's not a given. Therefore, I have to agree with the above: same price? newer year model wins IMO.

100%

I'm usually only home on weekends and that's when I take my Vette out. That 17k miles would represent 3 to 4 extra years of driving for me. If it's going to be a DD it's still 1 or 3 years worth of miles.

Case in point. 5 years ago, I bought a 1990 Ford Thunderbird for a family member. It had 21k miles. Driven by the owner to the golf course once in awhile. I gave him 2700.00 for the car. It was so clean, it looked like it was just off the showroom floor.

The person I bought it for has put another 50k miles on it since. It is up to 70k miles. Still under 100k and going strong. The lower the mileage the better on any car. Those are miles you get to put on the car vs. the previous owner.

To me it's all in the details. If the previous owner couldn't keep up with the missing items, what could they have forgotten or just didn't take time to do in the maintenance area? I'm a bit **** when it comes down to little things like this. Good luck on your decision.

I vote lower miles and chrome wheels.
The seats in my '11 GS are plenty comfortable.

I would need to know what trim level the interior is on both of them before making a choice. Are they 1LT, 2LT or 3LT? Do they both have HUD, NPP (dual mode exhaust)? Those options will make a huge difference in resale value. Also, do either of them have the magnetic selective ride control? That's another huge addition that some love and others don't. Finally, and I think someone mentioned this, how are the tires. New GS tires will run you close to $2K so that's important.

The 13 does sound like a repossession that was bought at auction by the dealer. While 27K miles on a two year old car doesn't seem excessive (a little over average), it is pretty high for a Corvette, which is usually a weekend play car. Also wondering why the dealer didn't fit it out with replacements for the missing gear. I'd be very cautious of the 13. What does the blue book say about the value of a 13 GS w/ 27K miles v. an 11 GS w/10K miles? If the valuations aren't close, I'd be even more leery of the 13.

I just went to KBB and they say the '13 with 27K miles is worth $42,721 and the '11 with 10K miles is worth $40,227. Is that the range of the asking prices of the two cars? Are these two cars at the same dealer? Somehow, I'd still feel uneasy about a two year old car with all those missing items. The lack of a second fob really smacks of a repo.
