Default 07 vette hatch doesn't latch

Popped the trunk to get something out and now when I go to close the hatch it won't latch closed. It will suck it in and pop right back out. I tried with door open and windows open but it just won't stay closed.

Had no issues with it before but now that its cold outside ( 20F) it doesn't want to close.

Anyone have any similar issues with the cold? Thanks

You probably just need to lubricate the latch mechanism.

Used blow dryer to heat up hidden latch release button (read on another similar post) and now closes just fine. Strange problem if this will happen in the cold every time..

I think it would be good to spray some contact cleaner into that switch...will probably take care of the problem.

It is easy to clean and lube the hatch release button above your license plate. To remove it, you must take out the taillight near the switch and reach your hand in to gain access. Do a search and you will find a nice write up with pics. I had to do mine a few years ago because the button was sticking. No more problems with it since I cleaned it.

While you're at it cleaning and lubricatiing the latch it's not a bad idea to go around the rest of the car and do the same to your door hinge pins and any other pivot point on the car. Good maintenance pays off later.

I had to lubricate my hood closures recently to get it to close. Did the doors at the same time. But I didn't do the hatch ... need to do that.
