Default 19/20 on a base w/ Z51

I'm looking at getting the new Cray Spiders and found out the 18" fronts will not clear Z51 brakes. So I need to go with 19" front and 20" rear wheels with 245/35 front tire and 285/30 rear to match diameter.

To anyone running a similar combination...Do you notice the ride is harsher with the reduced sidewall or about the same as with the stock 18/19? The Z51 suspension is already a little stiffer and I don't need it harsher yet.

I have to say that going to a 19"& 20" combo is going to ride a little my harsh than an 18" & 19" setup. I was running the 19" and 20" with a 245/35/19 and 305/30/20 with the Z51 option. Mine was also lowered so that may have contributed a little to the way it rode. It rode perfectly fine but it did not soak up the bumps it would have with a taller sidwwall. But it was very minimal.

Thanks for the reply. Your car looks great! Same color, lowered and all, except for the wheels and grille insert. So you noticed a difference going from 18/19 to 19/20 or did it have the big wheels all along? I bought mine used and lowered. I wonder how much that contributes to harshness...

If its lowered on stock suspension it will definitely ride rougher

I'm sure it's on the stock suspension. Right now you couldn't roll a tennis ball under the front air dam. Maybe I ought to raise it up a little? How hard is that to do?

Anyone that has messed with the car height please give me your 2 cents.

Couple of things.

I ran a 19/20 wheel combo with a ZO6 big brake kit on my previous C6 couple. I had custom (awesome) rear wide body fenders and stock front fenders - and ran a 275 30 19/345 25 20 tire combo with zero issues. Granted, the space between the wheel and brake in the front was about 4 hairs - but never had a single issue.

It's all about the offset. You can change the stock stuff if you're buying some custom wheels....it's just a matter of getting the right offset.

As far as ride? Hard for me to tell. When I bought mine, it had stock wheels with those crappy OEM runflats. They blew big time. My custom combo felt and performed faaaaar better than the stock stuff.

You may want to research this a little more, as I don't believe anyone has test fit the Spiders yet in any sizes.

I think you might be confusing this with the Cray Brickyard, which does seem to have some issues at 18" on the front with larger brakes. From looking at differences in the barrel designs on the two wheels, I suspect that we won't see the same issues on the Spider - but that remains to be seen.

I tried to order them and Wheel Specialists and one source told me they recently found out the 18" wouldn't clear Z51 front brakes.

Thanks that's good to know. Always helps to hear form experience.

Interestingly enough I just got a quote on Brickyards and Wheel Specialists confirmed they fit the Z51 brakes.

I'd love to hear from another source on the Spiders, because I probably prefer to stay with 18/19's. Any hard evidence from a test fit out there?

Someone on this big forum must know for sure if 18" Cray Spiders will fit Z51 brakes or not. Pls post what you know for sure.

These wheels were designed to clear Z51 calipers. Unlike the Brickyards which have a drop center in the barrel which doesn't allow for the 18/19 combo these wheels do not have the drop center. I should have some pics of some mounted on a Z51 soon.

Good to hear that from someone who knows the business. They are a good looking wheel. Looking forward to results of the test fit on Z51 brakes.

That is also a great looking wheel. Similar to the Cray Spiders, or better said the Crays are similar to those, since the RTF was obviously around first. Price is probably in a different stratosphere.

Thank you,

Our wheels are forged in the USA, Built in the USA and finished in the USA.

The quaintly of the wheels are in totally different stratospheres thats for sure our 19x12 is only 21.7lbs OEM wheel is roughly 32lbs and not sure about the Crays wheels.

We are running a very special promotion on the c6 chassis where we're offering wholesale pricing for selected sizes and finishes.

If you're interested in a set please send us an email directly to Sales@RaceTechForged.com or PM.

Thank you once again,

Those are lightweight wheels. They are slightly lighter than the BBS wheel I was considering. FYI- the Cray Spider is rotary forged (I don't know where) and 19X11 weighs 23.75 lbs.

Thanks for the info.

I know theres a lot of talk about rotary forged and flow form many people think that once they hear the word forged the wheels actually 6061-T6 grade forged aluminum, but its not both Flow form as we as rotary forged wheels are actually cast wheels. Yes theres a different process being used to finalize the shape of the wheel but the actual material being used as if your buying a cast wheel which you actually are.

Here is a tread which can better explain the difference in all the process of making a wheel.

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121777

All our wheels are made using Aerospace 6061-T6 Forged Aluminum. Just like BBS, HRE and few other well established motorsport brands.

I Hope the link helps everyone understand the difference in a wheel better.
