Corvette Brand Diversification
Alright, so I'm lying here in bed after 2am still trying to fall asleep and was figuring out how many model years the C6 was around. Long story short, I got to repeating "Corvette Stingray" in my head and thought of the significance that it's no longer just the "Corvette".
Then I got to thinking about how each modern Corvette has its own name - GS, Z06, Stingray, etc. How they've somehow become more than just a trim to the point where non car people know what a Z06 is. And how e-ray was trademarked, and there's the ever-present rumor of a mid engined model.
Now I'm wondering if it's possible that bringing back the Stingray name was more than a throwback they deemed worthy of the redesign. Maybe it was forethought to more diversification in the Corvette brand. Rather than a Z06 trim, a Z06 model on the floor next to the Stingray model, the E-ray model, the rear engined model.
And then again, maybe it's just a 2am, sleep deprived conspiracy.

Also, while typing that, I contemplated the AMAZING work done on the new Camaro. If we really want to go down the rabbit hole of Corvette being its own brand, what about the Corvette Camaro. Blasphemy. Agreed.
Though I'm sure there's something in there about taillights for the sympathizers...

You need to take something to help you sleep and stay away from your computer.
By the way, I bet if you ask the average person on the street what is the difference in a Z06 and a GS, they would not have any idea. All they know is they see the Z06 on the front fender.

BWF, that is what I have found in my area. Non Corvette folks don't think about year, model, trim level, etc. They only know it's a Corvette when they see one. And most (more guys than women) enjoy seeing one.

Breaking your segments off into new brands seems to be the new fad though (the failed SRT, the new Genesis brand, Kia thinking they're suddenly an upper class automotive maker and planning a luxury segment).

Maybe if you just roll over you'll be able to go back to sleep.
