Default Changing z06/GS brake pads

About to swap in some new rotors and AutoZone ceramic pads on my '07Z. Planning to hit the rotors with a green scotch brite pad to clean up the coating. For the pads, I've been told that I don't need to use any anti squeal due to the anti rattle clips. Do I need to add any high temp silicone to any of the pins? If so, can someone share a photo of where I should apply the silicone?

If the z06 is the same as the GS you need some brake cleaner to get the coating off the new rotors some people lock tight the caliper hold down bolts.I don't.

Did you go with the padlets?? Or the one piece pads??

The calipers have individual Pistons that come from each side of the rotor so once you have those back in the bores there isn't anything else to do but reassemble.

Also one more thing you probibly already know this but brake clean will eat paint so if you have painted calipers etc you don't want to be spraying it all around or getting it on the cars paint job calipers etc.

I would still put some sil glyde (silicon for brakes) on the back of the pads where they will contact pistons, ant rattle springs or not. It never hurts.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I was going to buy sil glyde per the recommendation of others, but the guy at the parts store recommended a high temp silicone instead, saying that sil glyde would not withstand brake high temps. He also recommended not to use it on the back of the pads, only to lubricate any floating pins.

So if I'm understanding correctly, there are no floating pins that need lubricating, and it is ok to use sil glyde on the back of the pads, where they meet the anti-rattle clips?

Dont forget most people who work at these stores are no mechanics and their knowledge is just as spotty. Sil glyde is a silicone sold for brake applications. Most brake manufacturers recommend in their instructions to use it in the back of pads. I also dab a little on the pins and the springs where they will touch the pads. I have never had a squealing problem with 20 or more brake jobs i have done. But it is your car, do whatever you want or believe whomever.

I did paddlets on my GS last summer. No need to remove the pins. No need to lube back of pads. No need to scuff rotors. Just follow the "bed in" procedure.

I track my Grand Sport, so I've changed pads, rotors, and fluid very often over the last 3 years. So far the only things I've ever done is make sure I bed the pads properly. So far 62k miles and no issues.

**correction**

In the situations where I didn't remove the caliper I did remove the pins.
