Watch an electric Corvette shatter a speed record

While electric may take over eventually (it will be a long time from now) you will still be able to have your gas powered car. As far as autonomous cars go, I strongly believe that while a lot of people may use them, particularly in cities, you will still be able to drive and enjoy your car. There is just to many people that love cars and love driving for it to ever be banned.
However, Human Driving *will* be priced far out of reach for the vast majority of people once self-driving cars become prevalent. Insurance will see to that.
"You want to insure your self-driving 2029 Malibu? Cost is $100/month."
"You want to insure it for use as a HUMAN-driver vehicle? Cost is $1100/month."
<customer gasps!> "Why so high? Its the SAME car!"
"Human driving" is considered "high risk" activity, just like drunk driving, and goes under our "high risk" policy category. Which policy would you like today, sir? It's your choice!"

The more things change, the more they remain the same!

No need to worry about the sound going away, I'm sure you will be able to pipe in the sound of your favorite 6, 8, 10 or 12 cylinder engine into the cabin just like BMW does in the new M4.

I was at a stoplight today and a Tesla pulled up along side. I opened my cutouts and revved my LS3 and the Tesla hissed at me. OOH! SSSSSScary!

I had a short run on the street with a Tesla S two weeks ago. I pulled away from the light fairly slowly, and he nailed it. I was two behind when I dumped it. We backed off at 80, and I had closed to his bumper. Was on a quiet, 3-lane, but did not want to push it.
Not sure if/when I would have caught him, but was closing the gap.
