Vette driven in the rain?
Just out of curiousity, does a for sale advertisement with the exclamation stating the car's never been driven in the rain really mean a 'hill of beans' to anyone?
What if that statement is absent? Does that automatically eliminate that vehicle from consideration?
Does a previously wet car deter from it mechanically, visibily, or aesthetically?

They discovered back in the 70s that Corvettes shrank in the rain. That's where they got all those Opel GTs. I just drove my '09 155 miles in the rain. The car is in the garage now trying to recover.

I have never gotten that ... in the end, the are cars to be driven in all types of weather. The only thing I've tried to avoid over the years is driving my Corvettes in the snow; not because I'm afraid of the snow getting on them, but because they don't handle well on icy roads

We finally got some rain here today and as I opened the garage door my Vette's alarm went off, some message about "you better not even think about it" came over the DIC. Closed the door and all is well

....they put these cars thru rigorous rain testing to make sure they don't leak so they must believe that we will drive them in the rain......which I do....when on a long journey its hard to avoid......drive that thing it won't melt.......

And I thought I was the only one who's car flashed that message. It rained for two day straight one time and my car sensed high humidity in the garage and warned me!

Last year, I bought an '81 Corvette with extremely low original miles. The owner said repeatedly that the car had never been driven in the rain. Well now, not only has it been driven in the rain, snow as well.

After 142,000 miles, I don't give a rats azz anymore...if I ever advertise my '05, the verbiage will include "Repeatedly driven in the rain, occasionally in snow and the here and there mud puddle"... $xx,xxx or best offer"..

One that's never been driven in the rain probably hasn't ever been washed either. What's the difference between the two?

It's really hard to avoid driving in the rain if you do any longish road trips in the C6. I've yet to go on any road trips (1 week or longer) that I have not encountered rain. Maybe it's because I like to drive the C6 too much, and would rather drive in style during road trips, than take a boring sedan or SUV.
I however have never, or will never drive it in snow. For one thing, I can't imagine that it would be much fun with limited traction, and the other reason is you can't control the other cars and how much control they have.
If you are going to drive in the rain, or expect to get caught in it occasionally, then a good set of tires is a must.
That of course eliminates any Good Year tires, as they are complete crappola.
It wouldn't be a deciding factor for not buying a car, but I would expect the under carriage it to be somewhat clean if I looked at it.
The worst part of driving in the rain, is having to wash it afterwards. That does include the under carriage from time to time.

And given the correct tires, they can handle the snow as well.

That statement is nuts, the car sat outside in the rain at the factory, it rode on the transport in the rain, it sat on the car lot in the rain so no way has the car "not seen rain".

This might be a little cold for those who don't actually drive the car.

Is just prowess statement made by the uninformed. Of course the cars been drenched at the factory checking for leaks. Probably on their track in the rain too. I'd be more concerned with the service history or whether it had the snot driven out of it at a track. Or, if it had been in an accident! I drove my C6 as a DD for four years on Long Island, NY. It was totally dependable. It was out in all weather except snow. I tried it once and wouldn't do it again.

I daily drove my Z06 when I first bought it. It was all I had at the time. Had to drive home from work in the snow. It was not fun, but it made it. Now I have a truck to daily drive, so I don't take the Z out if it is raining. I have been caught out for a drive and got rained on, but its not a big deal. Just wash and detail....again.

The implication is that the owner was so anally meticulous about the car that they wouldn't even let it get sullied by the rain.
Personally, I find such claims meticulously stupid. I am actually less likely to buy a car from someone who makes such claims, because they are probably a liar.
