I used Mobil 1 synthetic, but I guess you could use non-synthetic conventional oil and just change it more frequently.

This can of worms has been opened in this forum many times. Other than the price not sure why anyone would not want to run syn these days. The benefits are pretty well documented. Guess one could use dino if they choose. Rgeardless of which you use just be sure you change it every 500 miles or every 3 months which ever comes first.....sorry, couldn't resist.....

Bob Paris ....
That $22.88 looks to be a Walmart price, but how do you get the $12 rebate?
Is that rebate still in effect?
Thanks,

The dealers are using a synthetic blend DEXOS approved oil. I have two years of free oil changes after purchasing a CPO 2013 GS, and have been back twice.
Afterwards I'll probably stick with same.

Mobile 1 for me. My dealership provides Mobile 1 oil changes for $49.95 (up to 4 per year) for my club members.
If the reason to go conventional is cost, it reminds me of the time a guy bought a $40,000 Harley, and used $5.00 tie down straps on his trailer. You guessed it. Going down the highway the straps failed, and the Harley was totaled.

Turbo, thanks for the Mobil 1 rebate link...much appreciated.
Update: Just called [5/2/16] the Mobil Oil rebate center and confirmed that Wally World is a participating retailer for purposes of the rebate, even though they are not listed as such on the rebate web-site. The mice type indicates 2 rebates per household.

Conventional oil still has its place, but it is more in the naturally aspirated daily commuter type cars. Oil quality has indeed gone up considerably but in a performance engine synthetic is superior. Consider these cars came from the factory with a quality synthetic and the high temperatures these engines can produce, I would only use a synthetic oil in it.

If it's of any consequence, most airlines use synthetic oil in their jet engines. Those engines run high heat and extreme temperatures. Yes, I know there are no cylinders or pistons but there are bearings and shafts, not to mention accessories that need to be lubricated. If it's good enough for the airlines, it's good for my car.

Until the later years of the C6, GM required oil that met the GM 4718m spec. Oil must be full synthetic to meet that spec and it will be clearly spelled out on the bottle.

Yep...good point. But one thing these days when changing your own is where do you take the old oil. Not sure about where you're at but around here they still tend to frown at you at the local automotive stores when you bring in old oil. I finally found a re-cycle place close that gladly takes it and they will even take it in a plastic milk jug which is a plus.
