LOL, I guess I should consider myself lucky. I thought I had the 2.56, but it looks like my car is equipped with the 2.73 gearset, so that kinda makes my day!

Thanks to all for comments...............

For what its worth, I swapped out my 2.73 for a 3.42 in my C5. This car's first gear pulls much harder with the 2.56.

Bingo...because it can handle it.

That list looks like almost every box on the order form was checked.

My car had 2.56, it was sluggish/anemic. I put in 3.15 gears, potenza S04s on the wheels and the car pulls hard. 1st gear sticks and the car is a beast off the light.

You must be short on power if you stick 1st gear. I'm running a 2.56 and SO4's and 1st is only good at the track with Hoosiers. On the street 1st is a joke.

Yeah I agree. I don't think 1st has ever stuck very well on my car, even stock with some summer tires that used to hook my 3.42 ls1 vette on nitrous.

A little time and practice, you should have no problem sticking first on the street.

Well, you are never really going to get a tire with a 30 aspect ratio sidewall (IE: late model Corvette) to launch real hard on factory sized rear tires ... it just don't have enough sidewall to flex much.

If you want a hard launch, you need a big flexable sidewall tire > >

Ha! Wrinkle Walls from the '60s!

Do they still make them?

Here is a chart to help see RPM vs MPH for different gear ratios for A6's and MN6's:

I am going to do 3.15 gears in my A6 - quite a few have selected this ratio (3.15) combined with the A6 and absolutely love it

Thanks,Matt

And it needs to be screwed to the wheel!

I'm running a 4000 stall converter. If I had the stock 1800 converter I might be able to handle 1st gear better. I don't street race anyway, so it makes no difference. My power mods came a little bit at a time, but eventually 1st gear became a spinfest.

Another option is to just install a 'looser' torque converter ... you get a much harder launch do to the higher RPM the engine is operating at during the first 60 feet of the track.

.
For around 500whp, 3.42 rear might require shifting to 4th, and may cost you a 0.25 sec. Prolly 3.1 (if it is available?!) is best. I will try 2.73 very soon.

With 2.56, my best ET was 10.89 @ 127. I would love to be at 10.4-10.6.

Obviously running a 10.89....127mph with 2.56 gears, is not from a stock C6........EX: a stock LS3 with the auto will run 12.8 at 116 mph....

Quick Reply: Why didn't they put 3.42 rear gear in A6 C6's?
