Default Safe to drill behind passenger seat?

Installing an amp behind the passenger seat, on the rear bulkhead. Is it safe to drill there, or should I look at heavy velcro?

The gas tanks are directly behind that panel, so be very careful.
Some people have installed amps there, so I'm sure they will give you guidance.
You can also try the audio/electronic section of this forum for answers.

Good luck

I drilled mine, no problem. BUT you gotta be extra careful. I mounted a low-profile amp that I bought from DoubleD, and it works great.

I forget the exact measurements for drilling. I will check and see if I have something that says how deep you can go before drilling into gas tank. But I barely drilled through and I used short screws.

It's a good spot for an amp, but only if it's thin.

Good luck

I would use Velcro to be safe.

I wouldn't. I removed the carpet and liquid nailed in two small pieces of wood that I drilled into. If you go too far and puncture the tank have fun with that. Something like velcro would work as well

If you need convincing, check out the cost to drop and repair/replace a C6 gas tank

And if that doesn't dissuade you sufficiently, just think of the cool fireball that could erupt, if you would slip and accidentally drill into a tank filled with gas vapors

My installer put a piece of plywood on the bulkhead (I think he glued it), put the carpet over that, then screwed the amp into the plywood. He said you had to be very careful not to puncture the gas tank.

So, no, it's not safe to drill into the bulkhead.

i used a piece of melanite board that I mounted 4 machine screws in and then glued it with the screws poking through the carpet. From that I mounted the amp onto and used bolts that pulled the amp down securely. I then sliced 2 small holes through the carpet and pulled the cables through and it so they are nice and hidden from radio all the way to the amp. looks great.
