427 Battery Replacement

Really needs a battery lifting strap, one's a must & makes process as easy as possible. Some 'make' a strap w/ duct tape or use pair of vice grips. YMMV.
Need some patience, need to tuck one cable into opening & getting cell out & back in's challenging. Conical nuts, don't break 'em while making sure they're tight. IIRC for some weird reason it's a PITA getting replacement nuts.

Did this yesterday on my 427, the car ran out of warranty 3 weeks ago. He are the steps I took. It took about 10 minutes, not including going and getting a new battery.
1. Open the trunk, place a protective cover over your rear facia and open the battery compartment door
2. Loosen the two battery cables, disconnect the negative post from the battery, then the positive
3. Careful not to get any corrosion or corrosion inhibitor on your carpet then fold both cables to the right side of the battery
4. Remove the two nuts holding the battery retention bracket
5. Rock the battery to the right and slip a short piece of rope under the left side of battery, then center it under the battery
6. Tie the rope ends together to make a handle for lifting the battery
7. Lift the battery out of the battery compartment.
8. Place new battery into the compartment with the rope if the new battery doesn't have a handle
9. If you use an Optima battery, Autozone has an aftermarket battery retainer that works for $5, though I did trim it down to work with the factory retaining bolts
10. Install battery retainer using the factory nuts
11. Connect the positive cable and tighten, then the same for the negative
12. Reset the clock

Phlash,
Good write-up. I just used a open end wrench on the old battery post to lift the left side of the battery out. I put in a DIEHARD. Same as the one I run in my Z06.
