Hood vent installed (PICS)
Over the weekend I installed the SLP Camaro heat extractor hood vent. It's been done before, I'm not the first to do this. But I saw it and really liked it. Install was easy, if you consider cutting a hole in a perfectly good hood easy.
The kit is obviously designed for the Camaro so all the components can't be used on our car. Namely the water diversion tray.
So yes, water (a minimal amount) does get in the engine bay and from my 46 years on this planet a little water in the engine bay has never given me any trouble. It comes black with a slight texture. I had it sanded smooth and hydro-dipped, water transfer (whatever you want to call it) carbon fiber.
This is my daily and I have driven it in rain with zero issues.
Thanks for letting me share. Any questions? Fire away.

I apologize for the orientation of the pictures, blame Apple or this forums platform..?? But in 2016 you would think this wouldn't be an issue.

I think it looks really good and I think you did an awesome job on the installation. I definitely considered doing this modification as well but the thought of the car sitting in a heavy rain if I'm away from home scares me. I know most have not had issues but water isn't a good thing to be hitting coils, etc.

Looks good! Don't worry at all about the water....I wash my car just about every time after driving it with a power washer and water goes all in my engine bay and I have never had any issues and my vents are a lot bigger than yours for water to go in.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'm not overly concerned about the water, mindful maybe lol.
I still have some work to do on trimming out the inside, it's not perfect.

I do not unfortunately. I'm the guy that does some really cool and crafty mod and takes no pictures....
And I'm guessing coolant is the temp I should monitor?????
I will get some readings and post back here, that way you could compare.

Well done, I like the cf stuff as well, hmmm. Water is no issue, my car sleeps outside and it rains over frequently, no problems. As far as temps, mine does drive about 10degs cooler on average.

That looks fantastic man. I see you're in Katy, I work in Katy (live in Humble) and have quite a few C6 friends over here on this side of town. Where did you buy the hood scoop from? I know we looked into doing it to my little brother's camaro SS and the scoop was very cheap through a website but I can't seem to find it now.

Thanks again for the compliments. Tribaltalon, I bought the scoop from Phastek here in Houston. They deal in nothing but Camaro stuff.

Do you like it? Have you noticed improved cooling? Thanks

Love it...cooling has improved a lot. There was a post on here recently where I posted pics of the temps after 30 minutes of driving around highway and stop and go.
Now with the blower on..it would probably be a lot worse with out this hood, although I do now have the 160 tstat...temps stay around 188-192...and if I am really showing off with the boost lol, hovers around 205...you can see the heat venting from the hood at a stop. Money well spent to me.

Yep, what he said. Depending on price you would be able to shave the logo off.

The placement it too far back on the hood.
At speed, you have a pressure wave off the base of the wind shield that will be forcing air back into the back vents, and may just counter act any air from the engine bay coming out of the vents instead.
Hence this is the reason that the back of the hood is sealed between it and the fire wall cowling, and why the vents for the A/C on the drivers side top of the crowing pressurizes to force air through the air box at speed instead.
So on the C7, the vent for the engine bay/radiator is keep to the front of the hood, so its not influenced by the pressure wave off the wind sheild at speed , and allow the radiator and engine bay to vent up and out of the hood at speed instead.
