Default DRL Randomly come on when parked

I've had my c6z for about a month now and have noticed sometimes when I come out to my car, my running lights are on ( I guess acting as parking lights?) This happens randomly and having the key fob in my pocket does not change any thing. I figured maybe it detected the fob and turned them on. But there are times when I come home from work and they will be on. Is there a way do disable this? What is the cause of this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That's weird. Never heard that one before. Good luck finding the problem.

I wonder if the option setup to have the Approach Lights to turn on when the fob is near and unlocks the car.

The car is not actively looking for the fob until you push a button, like the door or trunk switch.

Can you tell if the lights that are on are the bright filament DRL/turn signal or the dim filament parking/running lights?

Is your parking brake set? DRL's only turn on when the parking brake is off (M6 trans only).

Best guess is a short or maybe water in the fuse box. Did you clean/wash your engine compartment recently?

They are definitely dimmer than when I am driving. I have both washed the car recently, and received a lot of rain in my area and it has only recently started happening, so maybe there is some correlation.

As for the approach lights I will have to check what their setting is, although the fob is always in my house. What's the range that it picks up the fob from?

I usually leave the light switch in the auto setting, never with the fogs on thou, sometimes when I park I notice the fog lights are on for the short period that the running lights stay on for, why I have no clue

I had things like the hatch opening and the alarm going off and it was the fob was pushing aginst other keys and things in my pocket. I found a fob cover on Amazon and blocked the buttons and no more problems.

This is what I was thinking too.
If it did it when you weren't around, the battery would be toast in no time.

To clarify...do you mean that the car is sitting in the garage long after being driven and the DRLs are on?

"DRL's only turn on when the parking brake is off (M6 only)" I believe the DRL's are also off when the PB is applied on an automatic. At least, that is the way the C5 was.

I have a feeling it is not the DRL's, but instead the "parking lights" that are on. Still, don't know why that would be if he doesn't have the fob in his pocket.

This feature used to be called "Twilight Sentinel".

It's in the Manual under DIC Personalization.

Twilight Delay: This option allows you to set the
amount of time you want the parking lamps and front
fog lamps to remain on after you exit the vehicle.
This will occur when the vehicle is off or in RAP and the
headlamps are on due to the automatic headlamp
system. The parking lamps and front fog lamps will
remain on until the driver selected time expires,
the exterior lamp control is activated or the vehicle is no
longer off or in RAP.
Press the OPTION button until TWILIGHT DELAY
appears on the display, then press the RESET button to
scroll through the following modes:
• OFF
• 15 S
• 30 S (default)
• 90 S
If you choose OFF, this option will turn off.
If you choose 15 S, the twilight delay time will be set to
15 seconds.
If you choose 30 S, the twilight delay time will be set to
30 seconds.
If you choose 90 S, the twilight delay time will be set to
90 seconds.
When the mode you want is selected, press the
OPTION button to set your choice and advance to the
next personal option.

The fob can contact the car from a significant distance when you push a button on the fob. ("Active Fob Operation")

However, if the car is 'looking' for the fob, the fob must be very close to one of the 4 antennas.

And the car only does this when you 'tell' it to look for the fob by using one of the 4 switches, doors, trunk, start/stop. ("Passive Fob Operation")

You can leave the fob next to the car and it won't know it's there.

No wonder c6 owners also have battery issues.

Well thank you so much Shows how well I comprehend stuff because I've read that manual numerous times and I guess I just didn't pay enough attention to that section.
I am still amazed at the complexity of these cars, a lot of it really unnecessary to my personal taste thou.
But I do thank you for your insight Now I know
