Default Sign of a slipping clutch?

In the last month or so as I'm driving say in 4th gear at 35MPH. If I push clutch in to shift gears it do so rather flawlessly. But as I'm moving the gear shifter from 4th to 5th or 4th to 3rd -- right as its going neutral in the shift box there is this rather subdued grinding noise. At first I thought maybe it was one of the pullies in the engine that was going bad, and then I though perhaps it's th AC system that's pushing the system at full air.

But today It did it with out AC on. It's almost as if the clutch plate is losing pressure as I'm moving to shift gears.

Again, no issue on initial clutch depress and movement of gear.

In vehicles that I have owned, when the clutch slipped, the engine would rev in gear, clutch out, but the car was not accelerating. Usually in a gear where the tires had more grip than the clutch.

To me this is classic.

What you're describing is the opposite: a dragging clutch.

This is a first for me...lol What would cause this?

Would an improperly installed throw out pilot bearing cause this? I had it replaced a little over a year ago.

Me think so also. Clutch issue would allow engine to rev up on hard acceleration, and throw out bearing would grind when clutch pedal pushed in. Pilot bearing would be noise all the time.

I had this car in the shop 3 times for Synchro issue, and the first two times they just said that's how these tranny's are, and then the third time they replaced the pilot and throw out bearing.

Now I'm out of warranty...great!
