Mystery black box

OnStar: On the inside windshield, passenger side top, all C6 2005-2013
If you have the windshield box and NO OnStar buttons on the inside rear view mirror, then I'd guess that at some point, someone replaced the IRVM with one from another C6 that was not OnStar equipped. (BTW, OnStar buttons were never on the C6 steering wheel. Closest it got was 2009-2013 optionally had BT buttons on the SW, but STILL had OnStar buttons on the IRVM) It would be interesting to see the option sheet on your car to verify OE.

Sooo, let me see if I can rile more people:
The black box contains the car's cell phone antenna and the OnStar GPS antenna.
Prior to 2010 the base and Z51 cars had the Onstar box (Vehicle Communication Interface Module) mounted in the passenger side cubby under the hatch while on Z06s/ZR1s it was located below the passenger seat. Once they came out with the GS they couldn't put the module under the seat since they wanted to keep offering passenger power seat tracks for the Z51 replacement and to offer them in the Z06/ZR1 so the VCIM was redesigned and moved to a spot above the IP Fuse Box/BCM, behind the glove box. With 3 models having the box in that location they may have decided to move the base car VCIM there as well.
