Thanks you guys....good answers all! Yea, I think I'll just see how it goes for awhile. Can't imagine they'd write a ticket for a first offense. I have the info. I need now....just in case! My wife tells me to buy the one that attaches in 30 seconds, says "It shouldn't take very long for ya to get at least 30 seconds in front of them, then by the time they get there you'd have it on!" Yea, that sounds a little sketchy!

And in Idaho, the bottom of the plate must be a minimum of 12" from the ground.

Missouri requires two plates. I finally decided I didn't care on the Corvette. On my DD's? Sure. On my toy? Not so much.

Default Montana Front Plate

My wife got stopped by MHP coming out of Kalispell for not having a front plate on our pickup, so I know they are watching for it. She told him we'd put it on and he let her go. Sucks to think that I'll have to run a front plate on my new Z06.

Show-n-go.....

Avoid at all costs. I forked over $130 for the motorized version. I never got around to installing it on my last Vette before I sold it. It sat on the shelf in a box for a while. I then decided to install it on my 500 Abarth. It worked for exactly two retractions before breaking. Obviously I had no recourse due to the time that had passed since purchasing, so I just ate the cost and learned a lesson. Complete and utter crap.

I haven't had a front plate on any of my daily driver cars for the last 20 years, and my state requires them, but I haven't been cited for it.

These are illegal in most states anyway. Count yourself lucky the thing broke on you or the fine could have been much worse if you'd been caught with one.

Ohio is currently trying to pass a bill that will no longer require the front plate. Says it will save the state 1.4 million a year. LEO's are arguing that it's a safety issue, yeah yeah...common reply. The state has of course paid for studies that say just the opposite. Here is one "fact" that the state is using as well. All the states that border Ohio are rear plate states and there is no data the state can find to support the safety issue LEO's are talking about.

I have not read up on any of the above info one way or the other. Just a few news articles here and there.

I run a plate because I don't want to take the chance of having a beer and getting pulled over because of missing plate. It's a quick detach and I often go without but for short periods of time. Also, here in Ohio it is not considered a moving violation. It's just a fine with no points.

I just leave mine in the windshield. Seems to do the trick. Used to not do that but a trooper that roams around my area busted me once and then every time she saw me. It's a $30 ticket but it's a hassle.

NYS requires it, but enforcement is lax according to friends.

I've been running for three seasons with no front plate, cops don't care -- so far.

If I ever did have to put one on, I would use the mounts that go in the center. Putting the plate off to the side looks like some kid stuck it on with bubble gum.

A friend who is a UHP Trooper told me that he wouldn't worry about it unless he was taking the person to jail for some other, more serious offense.

[QUOTE=Bruze;Putting the plate off to the side looks like some kid stuck it on with bubble gum. [/QUOTE]

I had to chew a lot of gum to get mine to stick.

Takes a steady hand to hold it straight until the gum gets hard too...

I keep my plate with me and double sided tape in case I'm pulled over in Ca it is a $25 fix it ticket. You can install and have the same cop sign off, or not even ticket you IF you are polite enough.

LEO are all different om enforcement, I went 13 years before getting a mudflap ticked on my lifted Sierra, and the damned CHP had a bone up his azz for a company that sells lifted trucks and thought mine was one of theirs.

You do have to bend the plate slightly.
I also bought the one from DoubleAA.com. Its pretty easy to put on if you lift the front of your car up a little bit. Easier to take out and put the screws back in. Nice fit.

Yes, that does seem reasonable, except for the fact that most front plate laws predate the tech to do that on the run.

Makes me want to move to NM.

Missouri is a two plate state. I removed mine and never had an issue.
