Default Bounce Dryer Sheets

After reading a post about winterizing a 2011 GS, one of the replies stated placing dryer sheets throughout the interior. I'd not heard of that before and was wondering what the purpose of that was.

I hadn't heard that one before. They sure smell a lot better than mothballs.

One dryer sheet trick I heard was to up them under your seats in the summer. When you're parked in the sun, the hot interior will release their scent and make your car smell nice.

Personal choice. I think they're foul while mothballs are ok. Choose your poison.

I am going to speculate without searching the 'Net.

In the golden days we placed crumbled newspaper in a car to help remove moisture.
I never used mothballs.

Perhaps Dryer Sheets in this modern day do the same as the newspaper trick. Plus the Sheets may add a Laundry Fresh scent.

I don't think there is any harm in adding some Sheets and actually may be a long term benefit.

Have fun.

I use peppermint oil soaked cotton ***** and place around the car in a few spots. Seems to have worked the past couple years and smells way better than moth *****.

**edit. I should say I haven't had a mouse problem with the car but then again I don't know I would if I didn't use the peppermint oil. I also place glue traps around the garage and have found one mouse per year the past two years FWIW.

It wasn't that long ago that someone posted a pic of a dryer sheet that a mouse drug up into the cabin air filter to use as nesting.

Maybe Snuggle has different results?

That was probably my picture of the mouse nest. They chewed the dryer sheet right up. :-) now I have the electric shock traps around my garage. Two dead so far this year. One I brought in from a storage unit in a box and he got away from me.

Maybe I'm just a naïve city mouse but, do you guys have that many run ins with mice that mouse traps, cat/dog and /or public shaming them wont work?

Texas has had mice/rats of epidemic proportions this year. So many that the animals around here have grown bored of chasing them. They run out in the highways in the daytime and sit in intersections. It's crazy.

I have had great luck with bounce dryer sheets keeping the mice out. BUT you need to change them or add a few fresh ones every 3 months. There is another product I use (forget the name...Ill have to look) that comes in a bag and smells like peppermint, I use both....no mice!

My friend and I were riding in his pickup truck through town one afternoon. I noticed smoke coming from the dash and well....
Note the pic of the mouse, which had dropped out from the engine compartment.

bounce sheets not only work on mice but all other forms of critters too (as mentioned above). I've been putting bounce sheets in every compartment of my boat and motorhome when winterizing them with great results. I put some interlayered in my firewood this fall to see how it works in there.
Although my vette winters (and summers) in my garage, I guess it wouldn't hurt to put one under each seat. YMMV
