Pearl Auto, wireless backup camera
Has anybody here tried this yet? Seems like a good idea but at 400 bucks I am trying to find out if it is worth and is it locked so it can't be stolen??

Powered by the sun.
The Camera Frame houses an efficient solar panel that charges in both direct sunlight and indirect light through clouds. This allows RearVision to be truly wireless, no drilling holes or splicing into your car’s wiring for power. The Camera Frame’s built-in battery is an energy reservoir to help during less sunny times of the year.

Solar is fun tech but power is easily available in the car and cameras don't use much anyway...seems like a high price for a solution in search of a problem.

I've been looking for a backup camera solution for a while now. The problem I see with this setup is in some areas it is illegal to have that much of your licence plate covered up and there are reported problems with wireless systems due to interference. I'm currently on the fence about getting a new head unit or the replcement sunvisor style. I believe a company called Rockford sells the nicest rear view visor monitor that can be adapted for camera use with two inputs. What I don't like is they only sell them in pairs and there is no protection cover for the screen that flips up or slides out of the way for concealment or a dust cover. It would be perfect if a camera recorder system could be built in but I have not found anyone who manufacturers that yet.

I like it. It's simple and a true bolt on. Problem is the phone mount - I have never found one I want to have in place all the time and I'd prefer a display in the stereo/nav screen instead. But that is a different thing.
For those who have the cash, this seems like a neat idea and I wouldn't mind trying one.

I grabbed one on eBay yesterday for $200... (WIN). I will post pictures and review when I get it put on.
I already have the ProClip C6 mount for my iPhone (which is always in the cradle).

Any update on how this is working? Also, interested in how it looks on the vette. Thanks.

It's winter here in Virginia so my car spends most of its time in the garage with its cozy blanket on... The problem with the garage is the camera is Solar Powered so... No sun = no power!
I don't think this will be a problem come spring when I will be driving more frequently. You can easily remove the frame (1 screw) and charge it inside via a built-in USB cable.
I will grab a pic and post it. I have no issue with how it looks on the car.

Regarding theft, hopefully its designed so during install you have to enter a code into the APP that only the owner would know (like a theft-proof radio!) - - but what do I know, I'm only a product design engineer!

I bought a similar system that attached in the same place, but you tapped into the backup lamp for power and to signal the supplied screen to turn on. The signal between the camera and the screen was wireless; the screen plugged into 12V inside the cab. It was considerably cheaper than the one linked. The worst part was finding an out-of-the-way place to permanently mount the screen. It worked fine but OEM functionality is a lot cleaner. I know quite a few people who bought cheap 12V IR cameras and wired them into their aftermarket audio screens; that's the way to go if you really want to do it.

Just ordered mine, will let the forum know if is worthless I'll just return it. They give you 60 days on customer satisfaction. I just like the idea of not tapping any wire and the convenience of using the smart phone. I guest everyone is wright on their thinking.

I have an after market Kenwood head unit and picked up what turned out to be a very good HD BU camera off of Amazon for $17 dollars. Took less then an hour to install running the wires so the can't be seen. Has great clarity & 'night vision'; better then the cameras that came with my 2013 Camaro and wife's 2014 Traverse ... so much so, she now want's me to replace the one in her vehicle with the same one.

A solar powered wireless camera just has too many points of potential failure for me to spend that kind of loot.
This is just my opinion of course.
