The C7 Z06 came out in 2015 and has a removable roof. The C5 Z06 has a non-removable hard top. The C6 Z06 has a non-removable top also.

2013 C6 427 convertible is basically a Z06 (same 505 hp engine). The Z06 purist might object to me saying they are basically the same, but as a prior owner of both, I feel I am not belittling either car by saying so---both great cars. When many of the Z06 folks I ran into at shows etc., were asked what the difference was between their Z06 and my 427, they would respond by saying something along the lines of "....basically the same car, except his is a convertible....."

Same engine as the Z06 with the exception of the aluminum frame...... ( I believe )

You are correct. The 427 came out as basically a steel-framed Z06 convertible.

It was not the FRC aluminum frame Beast.

The top on the Z06 is actually removal-able with some effort. However, it is considered a fixed roof since it's part of the structure of the car so removing it would be a terrible idea.

C6 Z06 FRC can be converted to a targa top, cost's ~$10K.
Only a precious few shops are capable of doing this conversion.

It's bolted on. So you can unbolt it is all I'm saying. Just look at the pic above you can see the seems of the top. However, this is a critical piece of the structure. The targa cars have additional pieces added to it in other areas in an attempt to maintain structural rigidity to compensate for it. Which is one of the reasons the Z is lighter and has less weight in it's roof.

I suspect that if the OP is asking by saying pre-14 instead of generation, it might be worth explaining the different body styles that existed through the C6.

The C6 came in two styles (regular and wide body)

The regular (aka base model) started in 2005, has a 285 rear tire and base brakes
The wide body (Zo6, Grand sport, and 427) has a 325 rear section tire and bigger brakes

Of the wide body cars the Z06 & ZL1 cars were lightened with an aluminum frame and a fixed roof, all of the other wide body cars (Grand Sport introduced in 2010 came with LS3 and 427 limited edition in 2013 with the LS7) had the steel frame.
