Default Rear Hatch button (Exterior)

I have a 2013 GS. I usually use the exterior button by the licence plate to open the rear hatch (convenient, instead of reaching into my pocket for the FOB). It recently has stopped "recognizing" my fingerprint (The button does not open the hatch anymore-I've tried moving the FOB closer to the button, like weak signal but I don't think that's it). I don't think it's a fuse either, because I went through the diagram of the fuses under the passenger seat floor board. I think the fuse showing on the diagram is showing the one for the hatch button by the steering wheel. Will someone give me some suggestions. I could not find any threads on this topic in the search feature of the Forum. Thanks for any feed back guys. Feedback- Other than going to the Chevy dealer, I avoid them as much as possible- lol

Do you have a phone anywhere near the FOB? The signal can be interrupted or blocked if your phone is too close to it.

It most likely has a build up of dirt inside the switch. I had the same problem. Took it apart and cleaned it real well. Had a good amount of dirt and sand inside. Working perfectly ever since.

Check this thread out for details:

It doesn't recognize your fingerprint, it's just a button. If the hatch button on the fob works and the button by the steering wheel works it can't be anything but the button by the license plate can it?

Glad to help! I am almost positive you will be good to go once you clean it out. I did it in less than ten minutes and that includes the time it took to get it back in the spot properly when I went to reinstall it. It was a little tricky.

Mine stopped years ago, and since I never used I just wrote it off.

It's n easy DIY fix. You either have to buy and replace or clean and replace. Also, it does not work by finger print but touch. The plunger travel can be a bit long compared to when it was new. It may be as simple as push the button in further. Either way it's an easy fix.

I have a 13 GS also and same thing happened, I bought a new one, installed it and cleaned the old one up to keep on hand when it happens again.
