Default Who needs insurance?

Would you go without insurance on your Corvette? Even if it wasn't mandatory, you would likely purchase insurance.

So why not have insurance on your removable roof? GM has no "door chime" or "warning system" letting you know that your roof is not securely latched. Flying roofs are real (search this forum) and they are dangerous. Just think what would happen if your roof lifted off of your vehicle and hit the vehicle behind you. Just think if that roof penetrated the windshield.

There are many, probably all "flying roof club" (FRC) members that wished something was around to alert them if the top was not latched. Think it will never happen to you because of how careful and meticulous you are? Ever lose track of your keys, or wallet? You're relying on your memory and repetitive actions to ensure your roof is latched down. But people get distracted, which is the number one reason for membership in the FRC. The number of distractions are limitless: Neighbor starts talking to you, kids start running around your Vette with toys that can harm your paint, your cell phone rings, it starts to rain while putting your top back on so you back into the garage and forget.... Don't put 100% trust into remembering to latch your roof.

Flying Roofs is manual warning system for those vehicles with removable roofs. It does the remembering for you. And unlike insurance, this is a one time purchase. Flying Roofs works similar to the "Pull Before Flight tags, but this is "Replace Before Drive". See www.flyingroofs.com for more information.

I have Removable Roof insurance thru Allstate on both of my C6 Grandpasports.

Please clarify how it works:

If you can't remember to latch the top after you drop it into place, how do you remember to dangle your device? Does it automatically activate?

The notifier tag pretty much covers the handle pocket cavity, blocking access to unlatch the handle (as seen in the picture below). Before you unlatch the handle, you pull the notifier tag from the Velcro strap and let it hang. It stays with the roof, attached to the handle. When you drop the roof back into place, the tag is hanging as you enter the vehicle letting you know the handles are not latched. Simply "replace the notifier tag before drive/flight".

Seems ridiculous to me. When you put your roof panel in place, why would you walk away without latching it? Makes no sense to me. Maybe it's because there are so many old guys here(me included) you get distracted and can't complete a task. Lol

I'm was 37 when it happened to me earlier last year. There's hundreds who have lost their roof by not latching them down. The #1 reason is distraction. Something that interrupts your meticulous process of doing something as simple as setting your roof back on and 3 latches later, you're done. But it happens, more than you think. And everyone laughs, and says "It will NEVER happen to me".... until it does. Ask anyone of us. But it does seem ridiculous, until it happens to you.
