I would expect that the "real" ones are made in China also.

Bumping.

I purchased from this company for ~$250.
https://cartool.aliexpress.com/store/1756517

NOT affiliated in any way, no guarantees all of them will work.

Anyway, I was able to hook up the CANdi + tech2 and reset my steering position sensor after i reinstalled it. Took about 5 minutes to find the correct thing to reset but it was very quick!

Interesting thread and links. In these parts the Tech II is almost impossible to find.

I ordered it on the 11th and received it yesterday (21st). YMMV but it was one of the quickest things out of China I have received.

I agree , I had mine at the Chevy Dealer when they were doing the TRANS reset for me because of SHIFT FLARE on my A6 .
( I had just gotten it and was not sure how to do the reset yet )

It sure looks exactly like the one the tech was using .....

Just used it to track down a random misfire I was feeling , what it showed me was that it was not just one cylinder misfiring like I thought ....... And if the Shift Flare comes back .... I got it covered

this thing is a priceless tool as far as I am concerned

Dave

Have you purchased a case to store it in? If you have what case did you chose?

I agree with you but it seems that they really went thru a lot of trouble to "Knock" it off as all the connectors , cables and candi interface that is included sure are a high quality ....... makes you wonder if this was the company that made the device in the first place

My $250.00 device does everything that the $5,000 device does ...things that make you go " Hmmmmm"

from how well made these things are, and the amount of legit looking parts (candi module, PCMIA(sp?) card, cables), I believe these are "gray market" gear. Probably made by GM's contracted factory, but sold on the side.

Yup, one of the disadvantages of making things in China...they can be sold 'gray market' with little penalty.

A disadvantage for some, a big advantage for us... Most of us wouldn't buy a Tech 2 if we had to pay $3,000... How many Tech 2s do you think they are going to sell to Corvette owners.. Maybe 1 in 1000 owners will ever get a Tech 2 unit , so it's really not going to have any large impact on GM..Just my opinion......WW

Agreed...I was thinking of it as a disadvantage for the company...Vetronix.

If you go to the first 2 sites I listed in my #2 post you will see in their advertising where they tell you, this is the exact same tool that the techs at GM are using , and that it is using the exact same GM software.. Also if you scroll down to the question and answers section near the bottom of the page , a guy claiming to be a GM tech asked if it is the same unit that they use at GM... He is also told thay "yes" it is exactly the same tool they use at GM and states that their tools are both made by the same company "Vetronix".. So , it looks like this is the same unit that they sell to GM to use in their shops.. But, you have to make sure your getting the tool made by Vetronix like the one on their site or it won't be the same tool as GM is using......WW

Here is the link to the 2 sites that sell the Vetronix units..I just sent my money via Paypal to the chinacardiag site to get their Tech 2 unit.. It was a better deal then the other site because they have free shipping as a promo right now... Both sites sell the same Vetronix unit...WW

"I read it on the internet...it must be true". If you google counterfeit tech 2 scanner you will also get a good deal of info showing how to spot a fake 'Vertronix" tool.

https://acdelcotechconnect.com/pdf/imtn_V16I209.pdf

There are posts on other forums where people bought them and it showed the 'vertronix' stickers that you put on yourself.

If it works good though and helps get your car diagnosed or back on the road at this price, great! Pretty much a throwaway for a couple of hundred bucks if it dies. Hopefully it doesn't smoke a BCM or ECM in the process. Read a couple of FAQs on one of those Chinese sites asking what to do if the tool starts smoking.....
