Default My C6 locks itself in park

I own a 2005 automatic coupe.

The shifter occasionally locks itself in park.

Yesterday, for example, someone drove the car up to me in a parking lot,
opened the door and handed me the keys without turning the car off.
I get in, close the door, and the car will no shift out of park.

The only solution I found was to turn the car off, get out, close the door, open it again, get in, close the door, and then start it. It's like I have to mock the process of getting in the car and starting the car from scratch.

It once happened to me at a traffic light with cars behind me. I had got out of the car to grab a jacket out of the trunk. Made it back behind the wheel before the light changed to green, but the car wouldn't budge out of park.

Love the car, but way too much electronics.

Any idea what's going on here or how to fix it?

Do a search for "stuck in park". Many, many threads on the subject. Here is one.

Common issue. Mine did it Saturday. I push forward slightly on the shifter and it clicks. I need to find time to do the permanent fix before it fails completely but it's been doing it for a year and it works most of the time and only requires a small push to fix.

BTW, DO NOT GO TO A DEALER FOR THIS FIX!!! It gets expensive for a trivial issue and the fix the dealer will do will be to replace the part with the same faulty part design. The zip tie fix works as long as you own the car.

probably the solenoid in the shifter

even something as trivial as spilled soda or gunk build up can mess it up

take out your center trim, pull out your shifter, disassemble it entirely, clean everything up, put it back together, might be good after that, if not change the solenoid in the shifter, or just buy a whole new shifter which is the most expensive option.

You like to do things the hard way, huh?

either hold the pawl back with wire or cut it off all together, some have attached wire to it threaded to the center console, so they can pull it back when it does jam.
I snipped mine off.
