Gas smell
#1
I have a 2007 corvette with the LS2 took it for a ride yesterday and this morning my whole garage smells like gas. I can't see we're any gas is leaking under the car or in the motor area. I check under the hood looked at all the injectors and underneath the car but still can't find anything. Has anyone had this issue in the past. And what was the corrective action.

Hopefully they will do it for free if it's within the first time it was purchased ( date) my 07 is more than 10 years old. They even may work with you even if it's past the 10 years as required

I have an 08 and this is one of the most common problems for that year.I had mine fixed at the dealership and there was no charge. The plastic fittings on top of the fuel pump crack. I think they will do it free if the car has less than 120k miles and has not been in service more than 10 years.

I just received a recall letter from GM on Friday regarding gas smell and leakage. Apparently from the gas tank. Check on the NHTSA site for more info.

Hmmm....I have an '08, and have never had the problem. This is the first time that I've seen it said that this is a common problem on 2008's.

This is the site where I read that fuel smell is the number 1 complaint. I don't know if other sites will list something else.
Best regards

My 07 will not get coverage after the end of this month. Just got a letter from GM to bring the car in if there is gas smell. Find out quickly which month your car was manufactured because all recalls will end on that month. If you are lucky you may be able to get GM to fix it.

This subject is all over this forum. If you do a search, you will find lots more info. Unless it has recently changed, this is NOT a recall. It is referred to as some kind of provisional warranty. Some dealers will not do the work, others will jump right on it.
I don't have the smell in my '08. No mention of any repair on the VIS, so I guess I am just lucky, so far.

The official letter from GM that I got is called "special coverage adjustment" 15682 and instructs the dealers to replace the left hand fuel tank fuel pump module & associated gaskets

So, here's another question regarding the fuel smell. I have only noticed it faintly and only once on start-up after the car had sat for about two weeks due to bad weather. My concern is with vibration to the fuel system components from all the bad roads up here. Is this a problem, or are the leaks not necessarily caused by vibration?
Thanks.
Steve
