LS2 is a helluvan engine......I loved the LS1 in my C5......did not love my C4 engines.....totally loved my LS5 in my 72......and all the rippen small blocks in the C2's.......My most favorite engine of all time though is the LS3...... its just the evolution thing......improvements were made but there is no bad LS engine......

Both good motors. Had a 2005 GTO with full B/O, cam, and more...boom.
Got the late build 2008 LS3 Vette. Has full B/O's and I like it better. You can throw a $hit ton of power at both and they will handle it. Even Blue Oval and *** car guys appreciate these motors.

When I decided I was finally going to buy a vette, I had no idea about the variations. I wanted a standard shift, high performance car. GOT ONE! It "just" a base. But I love it. Looks incredible, drives sweet, and fast. Ok I'm having LG headers installed and have a Vararam intake. Once tuned it'll be a little faster, and sound a little meaner. Lovin the ride.Only problem is every HillBilly in Arkansas with v8 pick-up wants to race me. SMH. I don't race pickups. Or anyone else on the street. Grew up. passed that. Well usually.......

And whatever you do to your car enjoy it. You'll get the stuffed ***** on here that will criticize it. Doesn't matter, cause you have a nice ride. Just stay away from caliper covers...I got ostracized for them. Called tacky and such. But I love my car and the stupid caliper covers. Your car looks sweet.

I love my 2007 LS2 base Corvette. Nothing fancy and maybe not much HP as other Vettes, but it is still a Vette, and the respect of owning a Vette is still there. And that's the bottom line.

The LS2 was only in three model years of the C6 Corvette, so if you are on a tight budget and want a C6, get one with the LS2. I doubt there is much of a price difference between a 2007 and 2008, but the 2008 with the LS3 gets you 30 more HP. I would take the 2008 if I had to choose between the two Corvettes.

@ the OP: I bought my '07 three years ago and am still lovin' it. It's bone-stock and will remain that way. I haven't found any place yet where I can see for sure if it will do 186 MPH as advertised, but . . . oh well.
What you're describing is the Corvette "culture."
It's the same thing as riding a Harley Sportster -- all the "big twin" guys will jerk your chain, telling you you're riding "a girl's bike." (I had both).
Or with a boat. No matter what size you have you will always feel inferior around people with larger boats. (I bought a 12' jet boat and never looked back).
Back in the '60s when stereos became popular, the more you spent on your stereo set the "cooler" you were.
Just from casual observations, this thinking also seems to hold true in suburban America with riding lawnmowers.
I find these cultural, "cliquey" things silly, juvenile, and materialistic. As others have pointed out, in different words: If I asked 100 people off the street about my car, I bet:
- Less than half would know it's a Corvette unless they saw the lettering in the back
- MAYBE one would know what generation it is
- That person MIGHT know (50/50 chance) what engine it has
FWIW: I can't tell an '05 from a '13 unless they still have the stock wheels.
Jimmy cracked corn and I don't care.

After being without a Corvette for 6-1/2 years, I'm happier than a pig in mud to have an '06 base in the garage. The LS2 is plenty peppy for me and I love the way it sounds.

I bought my 07' with an LS2, brand new. It was the fastest car I've driven in 34 years. I couldn't believe the factory power and torque it had. I was and am still super impressed with it. I rented an 08' and couldn't really feel a difference, even though it had 30 more H.P.
The LS2 is plenty fast for me! I've never raced it on the track and I don't go in for street racing, at all. You can't legally drive it to its full potential on the road without getting a ticket or worse. So, whether it has 400HP or 430HP, to me, it doesn't make difference. My LS2 has been a reliable and strong engine. Back 50 years ago, when, I bought my first Vette, everybody tried to buy newer ones because of horsepower upgrades and appearance upgrades. A lot of them were beat to hell and needed a lot of wrenching on them. Today, most Vettes from C5 to C7 are damn near perfect. People seem to take better care of them.
Saying again, I'm happy with my LS2 engine and 07' C6 Vette.

We traded our 2006 LS2 for a 2009 LS3.
We notice that the other ~70 couples in our club all have just as much fun, regardless of car age or power.

I once had a guy ask me what my car was, I was so baffled I didn't know how to respond.
He had no clue it was a Corvette, and even after I told him I couldn't help but think is this guy f***ing with me.

It's all in your head dude.
Your driving a Corvette and 99% of the people on the road can't tell a ZR1 from a Z06 from a GS from a base coupe, never mind what engine it has.
Your missing the big picture. Take a step back and enjoy your car and don't worry about what others have.
